Are you ready for Ballistic: Mad Mel vs. Machete?
Robert Rodriguez has given the troubled star a (somewhat) healthier way to blow off steam: a role in his Mexploitation sequel, "Machete Kills," according to Deadline.
Mel Gibson was actually at the top of Rodriguez's casting wish list for the grindhouse flick and … well, hey, some wishes indeed come true. No word on what role Mel will be playing, but we have a feeling it's the madman arms dealer who, along with the leader of a Mexican drug cartel, plans to launch some sort of weapon into space. It's up to Machete to stop their villainous machinations and save the day (which might result in him getting launched into space himself).
Gibson joins a cast that includes Danny Trejo, reprising his role as the former Federale who now must slaughter in order to survive, as well as returning players Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez.
We love that Mel Gibson is going to be in "Machete Kills." We hope he gets to play a completely deranged lunatic or whatever he needs to do to clear his head and get back on top of his game. And we hope that Joe Eszterhas has absolutely nothing to say about it.
Production on "Machete Kills" is set to commence this spring, after which Robert Rodriguez will segue into "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" this summer.
