Mark Wahlberg to Fill Shia LaBeouf's Driver's Seat for 'Transformers 4'

Apparently, Mark Wahlberg is the new Shia LaBeouf.

That might just be one of the strangest sentences we've published since the launch of NextMovie, seeing as LaBeouf probably would (and should) kill to have a career like Wahlberg's, but apparently that doesn't matter to Michael Bay, who just scored the aforementioned former Oscar nominee to sit shotgun in his latest "Transformers" movie.

That's right, Wahlberg will be sitting in the driver's seat as the lead in "Transformers 4," Bay confirmed on his website. The pair are currently working together on "Pain & Gain," which arrives in theaters on April 26, 2013.

"Mark is awesome," Bay said (and we'd expect nothing less from the "awesome" director). "We had a blast working on 'Pain and Gain' and I'm so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy."

Despite LaBeouf being replaced a whole new cast, Bay insists this won't be a reboot.

"It's not a reboot, that's maybe the wrong word," Bay told the Los Angeles Times in June. "I don't want to say reboot because then people will think we're doing a 'Spider-Man' and starting from the beginning. We're not. We're taking the story that you've seen — the story we've told in three movies already — and we're taking it in a new direction. But we're leaving those three as the history. It all still counts ... It's kind of daunting and scary. You want to try to keep it going, to match what’s come before."

"Transformers 4" is slated to land in theaters on June 27, 2014.
