When the movie-going children of Nottingham, U.K., pranced into their local Cineworld with mums and dads in tow to treat themselves to a screening of DreamWorks' PG-rated "Madgascar 3," they got a lot more trick they bargained for.
Rather than watching the innocent animated tale of talking jungle creatures making way through Europe as expected, they were sent running and screaming from the theater as the first few minutes of Paramount's R-rated fright fest "Paranormal Activity 4" came on instead.
As reported by Yahoo! Movies U.K., the parents and children (some as young as five years old) suspected something was not quite right when the flick first came on. They really came to realize the theater's mistaken switcheroo when — spoiler alert! — the female character Katie Featherston's bloodied corpse was hurled at the screen.
As one eight-year-old's mother explained, "It opens on the most terrifying scene in the first film — where a body shoots full pelt towards the camera. It's enough to make grown men jump, so you can imagine the terror in these young faces. Everybody just scrambled for the exits, all you could hear were children crying and screaming. Everyone was very upset."
The cinema, of course, gave refunds and apologies to the 25 or so beguiled families involved and screened the correct film half an hour later, but, as the livid lady declared, "It was enough to scar them for life."
