The high stakes world of technology megacorporations in "Paranoia" is a long way from District 12, Gale.
Liam Hemsworth will be spending his down time before "Catching Fire" filming the thriller based on the novel by Joseph Finder. Grizzled bad asses Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford are close to signing on to the project as well, making "Paranoia" a possible powerhouse of a film. At the very least, it's not a bad way for Hemsworth to spend his summer vacation.
In the novel, Hemsworth's character works at a tech company and is caught with his hand in the virtual cookie jar. He's forced to choose between the slammer and becoming a corporate spy for a rival company. At first, his cushy new life is awesome, but when the stakes become too high, he finds it's not quite as easy as just walking away from the deal. It's safe to assume that Oldman and Ford would play the CEOs of the two companies. Who shot first: Han Solo or Sid Vicious? The mind reels.
In a strange twist that makes us feel a bit paranoid, the thriller will be directed by Robert Luketic, who, other than "21," has more rom-coms under his belt than anything else. Luketic directed "Killers" with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher film, "The Ugly Truth" with Heigl and Gerard Butler, "Monster-in-Law" and "Legally Blonde." Perhaps the next casting announcement for "Paranoia" will include Heigl as well!
Oh, Gale, we're not sure even Katniss can save you from such a fate.
