It's a sad day in "Twilight"-land. What began as a buzzy rumor has now turned into an all-out media flurry, with Kristen Stewart and "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders at the center of it all.
It started last night when US Weekly boasted nabbing some paparazzi photos which reportedly showed Kristen Stewart in the middle of a rendezvous with Rupert Sanders in Los Angeles on July 17th.
Sanders, 41, is married to actress-model Liberty Ross, who starred as Kristen Stewart's character's mother in "Huntsman" (Sanders also has two children with Ross), and Stewart, 22, has been dating her "Twilight" co-star Robert Pattinson since around the time "New Moon" was filmed in 2009.
People got the first news from Kristen Stewart's camp on the matter last night, with a source stating, "Kristen is absolutely devastated ... It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment ... She wasn't having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened ... She never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice."
Despite the following speculation that the photographs might've been photo-shopped, and a worldwide trending topic "Robsten is Unbroken," formal dual statements from both Stewart and Sanders have now come down confirming the veracity of the story.
According to People, Stewart said "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
In a separate statement, Sanders apologized as well, saying "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family ... My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
