The Man Who Killed Bin Laden Reviews 'Zero Dark Thirty'

Jessica Chastain in "Zero Dark Thirty" Sony

These days, it seems that everyone is a movie reviewer. Thanks to the internet, anybody with a Facebook account or a Twitter handle can head online the moment they get out of the theater and post their thoughts on whatever movie they just watched. Which is cool and everything, but it does make it kind of hard to figure out which opinions are actually worth taking the time to read.

Every once in a while, though, a review comes along that's definitely worth a look — such as, for instance, Esquire's new review of "Zero Dark Thirty," by the man who actually killed Osama Bin Laden.

Yes, this is no joke: In a wide ranging new interview, the anonymous Seal Team Six member who actually pulled the trigger and ended the biggest manhunt in world history shared his thoughts on the acclaimed film by Kathryn Bigelow. And the verdict?

Actually, not so bad.

"It was fun to watch. There was just little stuff," he said. "The helos turned the wrong way [toward the target], and they talked way, way too much [during the assault itself]. If someone was waiting for you, they could track your movements that way."

"The mission in the damn movie took way too long," he said, adding that the pivotal moment in the film when a character calls out Bin Laden's name as a ruse never happened. "When Osama went down, it was chaos, people screaming. No one called his name."

"They Hollywooded it up some."

Overall, though, his criticisms were actually fairly minor, with little details like the configuration of the stairwell and the breed of guard dog being wrong. The only major problem the soldier had with the portrayal of the raid was the tactics being used, which he said "sucked," in large part due to excessive dialogue that would have given away their position. Nitpicks aside, though, there's one thing he agrees with other reviewers about: Jessica Chastain was "awesome."

"They made her a tough woman, which she is."

Considering the source, that's high praise indeed.
