Considering Oscar nominee and "Beasts of the Southern Wild" star Quvenzhane Wallis is, you know, a 9-year-old girl, you wouldn't think there would be too many comedians who could pull off an impersonation of her. But despite that seemingly insurmountable hurdle, Kevin Hart did his level best last night on "Saturday Night Live" in a truly strange skit imagining Quvenzhane Wallis as the new Pope.
Yes, this one has to be seen to be believed.
The premise is pretty simple: With the Catholic Church about to appoint a new Pope, the skit wonders what it might be like if that Pope happened to be Quvenzhane Wallis.
And... actually, that's it. That's the whole joke. But considering Wallis basically stole the show at last weekend's Oscars, highlighting her isn't necessarily a bad idea. And the requisite joke about the Catholic Church's ongoing pedophilia scandal, while incredibly tasteless, still isn't as bad as Oscar host Seth MacFarlane's joke regarding Wallis and George Clooney.
So is this skit funny? Or should jokes involving a 9-year-old be shelved just as a matter of policy? Check it out, courtesy of NBC, and decide for yourself.
