All week long, Lionsgate's been doling out new character images from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and in the latest, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) looks mighty refined - and a tad wacky, per the Capitol's fashion-forward standards.
Her long decadent white gown is embellished to the hills, and her make-up's so thick the recent Oscar-winner is barely recognizable in the image. Those familiar with Suzanne Collins' book will know, however, that the excess is important to the story.
To refresh, Katniss and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) were successful in escaping "The Hunger Games" together, despite the odds most definitely not being in their favor, and it was thanks in part to the fact that their mentor flung around this star-crossed lovers theme with sponsors and other high-esteemed citizens. President Snow (Donald Sutherland), however, doesn't quite buy the bit and challenges ole' Catnip to prove her undying - heh - affection for the boy with the bread ... even to him.
That single white rose she's hanging on to is a promise, not just a threat, that the Prez'll douse the flames she's kindled if she doesn't comply. So, she and Peeta agree to put on a wedding for all the world to see, and she's sent gobs of dresses to try on, take pretty pictures and then let the masses vote. One of those dresses happens to be pretty special, of course, but surely the studio wouldn't spoil that surprise so early in the game. So, this is probably one of the throw-aways ... right?
At any rate, Katniss' image isn't the only chair-centric portrait to be released from the film. Also unveiled are glimpses at Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) looking a tad more forlorn than usual and Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) with a new color scheme going on (via Capitol Couture Instagram), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) as dapper as ever (via Total Film) and Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), who may or may not be holding a flask in that jacket (via IGN).
