Looks like T-Rex'll be keeping that slight lead in the kill count race against Velociraptor for a little longer ... and possibly forever.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, producers were readying to begin rolling as early as June, but delays in passing along a script draft have caused it to slow things down indefinitely.
The studio released this expectably vanilla statement on the matter: "In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise."
Meanwhile, one of the film's employees was quoted as tweeting, "Hollywood makes and crushes dreams. Goodbye JP4." Yikes.
As recently as May 2, director Colin Trevorrow was tweeting pictures of landscapes presumably used in the film, using the hashtag #JP4. He has not tweeted since then.
With Universal vacating the prime June 13, 2014 box office real estate, Sony leaped right into it for their "21 Jump Street 2," which was originally poised to face off with Michael Bay's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" on June 6, 2014 (in other words, the
stoner youth demographic would've had some tough decisions to make that weekend).
And if you're thinking this "Jurassic Park 4" shelving is, like, no big deal typical Hollywood stuff and whatnot, just take a quick look at some of the drama going down on Twitter as a result of the news. These people are taking it pretty hard.
