The Governor is All Right.

In a surprise bit of casting news (though it is, upon reflection, perfect casting), Julianne Moore will be taking on the role of Sarah Palin in "Game Change," the upcoming HBO film about the 2008 Presidential election.

"Game Change," based on the book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, will chronicle the former Alaska governor's burst onto the national scene as the surprise vice presidential candidate and running partner of John McCain, according to Deadline.

"Game Change" reunites director Jay Roach and screenwriter Danny Strong, who previously collaborated on another HBO film, "Recount," which chronicled the mess that was the 2000 Presidential election between Al Gore and George W. Bush.

While we love Tina Fey's Emmy-winning impersonation of Palin on "Saturday Night Live," Moore is the perfect choice to play the Alaskan Queen if HBO is going for a more "serious" approach (which, we assume, they are). It will be interesting to see someone play Palin without any sense of irony -- though, even without the nudge-nudge, wink-wink, will she still come across as over-the-top as she does in real life? Probably.

Stay tuned for more casting news on "Game Change" -- we're very curious as to who will be playing some of the other major players in this story, including McCain and, of course, President Barack Obama (Will Smith is probably too expensive for HBO, but you never know...).
