Before They Were Famous: Julianne Hough in 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'

It takes a certain kind of magic to excel as an actor, dancer and country singer in Hollywood. And Julianne Hough -- "Dancing With the Stars" champion and star of the upcoming "Footloose" remake -- developed her hocus pocus overseas, believe it or not, at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Yes, Julianne Hough is one of only a handful of American actors able to list "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (or any "Potter" movie, really) on her resume.

Long before the triple threat made her reality television debut on ABC, she was living in London with her brother (and former "Dancing With the Stars" co-star) Derek Hough studying dance under the tutelage of competitive ballroom champions Corky and Shirley Ballas. In between tutoring, rigorous training and dance competitions, the 13-year-old Julianne Hough (along with her brother, who was 16 years old at the time) landed an extra part in "Sorcerer's Stone," the film adaptation of the first installment in J.K. Rowling's beloved series.

Even 10 years after playing a Hogwarts student, Hough still cherishes her magical "Harry Potter" memory -- and the piece of memorabilia she stole.

"I might get in trouble for this," the actress recently confessed to Parade. "But I actually stole the Gryffindor scarf that I had as a memento. I was like, 'I have to keep this scarf!'"

No worries, Julianne. We would have done the same thing.

Even though Hough's career has taken off on the big screen -- with a leading role in the "Footloose" reboot and a plum part opposite Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin in Hollywood's adaptation of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages" -- will the starlet still make her way to an early showing of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" like the rest of us?

"I’m still such a big fan," Hough promised in the same Parade interview. "I always go and watch the midnight showing, so I'm excited to see it."
