Given the seemingly endless parade of stars who have already signed on to appear in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," such as Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page and Anna Paquin among many, many others, you might think there's no room left for any new additions.
But you'd be wrong, because according to The Wrap director Bryan Singer has added yet another new mutant to the mix, this time in the form of up-and-coming Australian actor Josh Helman.
What, is the entire movie going to just be crowd scenes?
Still, we're kind of psyched that Helman is joining the mix. Not only is he the latest in a long line of terrific Aussie stars (see his work in "The Pacific" or the upcoming "Mad Max: Fury Road" if you don't believe us), it also gives us a chance to play the most exciting internet game of 2013: Guess the mutant.
Figuring out exactly which character Helman is going to play is especially difficult, of course, given the fact that "X-Men: Days of Future Past" involves a great deal of time travel, not to mention possible alternate realities. So even though most of the primary cast members from both "X-Men: First Class" and the original "X-Men" trilogy have already been accounted for, we could very well be looking at a younger version of a character that has already been cast.
Namely Cyclops. The adult version of Cyclops, of course, was played by James Marsden in the original trilogy. Marsden is reportedly set to reprise his role somehow, even though his character died in "X-Men: Last Stand." But other versions of Cyclops have already appeared in both "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," both times teasing the formation of a new class of mutants at Xavier's Institute.
Given the fact that one timeline in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will take place following the events of "X-Men: First Class," then, it's inevitable that a younger Cyclops will appear. And since no official casting has yet been announced for the character, well, simple math suggests that Helman is the guy.
After all, there couldn't possibly be any more mutants left for him to play, right? Right?!
