It would be hard to imagine two people who look less alike that John Cusack and Rush Limbaugh. And it would be even harder to imagine two people who think less alike than Cusack and Limbaugh, given that Cusack is an avowed liberal and Limbaugh is a the voice of right wing America.
So today's news is particularly weird, as Deadline is reporting that Cusack is in discussions to play Limbaugh in an upcoming biopic of the conservative demagogue.
Can even the magic of Hollywood stretch that far?
Of course, Cusack fans might point out that the actor is, after all, a really good actor, so he can probably pull off whatever role he puts his mind to. Still, given Cusack's political leanings, it seems like an odd choice to play Limbaugh in a film that reportedly will take a middle-of-the-road approach and focus less on Limbaugh's politics and more on his cult of personality.
"The script would explore the rise and reinvention of American Talk Radio, and Limbaugh's continued influence and impact over the last three decades in that world," is how the report describes the project. Still, it should be noted that Cusack is only in talks and hasn't signed on to anything definite. Plus, according to one insider, "it is very early days and I don’t even think there is a finished script and even then it could certainly change." So maybe some of Cusack's politics will rub off on the finished product after all.
Either way: Cusack and Limbaugh. Some pairings truly are stranger than fiction.
