Jennifer Lawrence On 'The Hunger Games:' Mom Made Me Do It

The calendar may read February, but for "Hunger Games" fans today is Mother's Day, as Jennifer Lawrence has revealed in a new interview with Total Film that she never would have taken the role of Katniss Everdeen if not for dear old mom.

Looks like someone deserves an extra bouquet of flowers this year.

Of course, it's not the first time that Lawrence has mentioned her mom's role in, well, the role; she's told the story numerous times of how her mother called her out for being a fraidy cat when she considered passing on "The Hunger Games" because she was worried it would be too big a project to take on.

"I always got asked why I did indies, not studio films, and I said it was about the script, it’s not about how big it is," Lawrence relates. "And she was like, 'This is a script you love, a character you love, and you’re about to turn it down because of the size of it? You’re a hypocrite!'"

Now, though, Lawrence is also speaking out about the fact that it was actually her mom who first read "The Hunger Games" and suggested that Lawrence consider the role to begin with.

"My mom has a terrible habit of reading books, telling me to read them and then me doing the movie – she did the same with 'Winter’s Bone.'"

If turning Lawrence into an international superstar by steering her towards great projects is her biggest fault, we have to say: Thanks, mom!
