Jason Segel Getting Out of the 'Muppets' Biz

Warner Bros.

It's a sad day in Muppet-land (A.K.A. Hollywood), as it's looking like Jason Segel won't be back for the highly anticipated sequel to 2011's Oscar-winning "The Muppets" movie—as either a writer or actor. We know. How can such a thing happen?

A few days ago, Segel revealed that he wasn't going to return to pen the next installment because he wanted to focus on other project already in the works — which include the hit show "How I Met Your Mother," Judd Apatow's "Knocked Up" spin-off which we think is titled "This Is Forty," and the release of "The Five Year Engagement," which Segel also wrote and starred in.

Oh, and his next flick "Jeff, Who Lives at Home" opens in a matter of days as well. In other words, his dance card's pretty full these days.

According to Coming Soon, Segel broke the news of his departure from the Muppets at the "Jeff, Who Lives at Home" press day explaining, "My goal was to bring the Muppets back and I did that leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner and James Brobin the director."

All I wanted to do was set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects. I'm sure I will return some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life. Five years of hard work. I'm ready for a little puppet break."

Even though the man has a point, we gotta say, we thought his "Man or Muppet" song was one of the most "human" moments on screen last year.
