Up-and-coming actress Jamie Chung, who danced for her life in "Sucker Punch" and smooched Ed Helms in "The Hangover Part 2," has added yet another project to her bursting dancing card.
And this one is about serious stuff.
Chung, who is currently filming "Knife Fight" and has two films in post-production, will co-star in indie director Megan Griffiths' new drama "Eden." The film takes on the thorny topic of kidnapping and human trafficking, a far cry from the hijinks of the Wolf Pack. The character "ensures her own survival by carving out power and influence within the very organization that has imprisoned her," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This is definitely a huge step for the actress (and former "Real World" cast member) to show off her dramatic chops in a more low-fi setting.
The topic of human trafficking has been tackled in lighter fare like the Liam Neeson actioner "Taken." "Eden," on the other hand, is based on a story by Richard B. Phillips and trafficking survivor and advocate Chong Kim. Kim is also featured in the trafficking documentary "Flesh." Whether or not this will be based on Kim's experiences or simply used as a jumping-off point for the story has yet to be seen.
Scoot McNairy, who appeared in Griffiths' movie "The Off Hours," is in talks to costar. Shooting will start later this summer.
