Now that "The Hunger Games" casting is drawing to a close, fan focus has turned to another highly anticipated adaptation: Cassandra Clare's "The Mortal Instruments."
"Instruments" has nabbed Lily Collins as the heroine Clary Fray, and we've been waiting eagerly to see who would play her companion and guide, Jace Wayland. Not just any man can play Jace, who is a bit of a bad boy, full of torment, sarcasm, and disdain. It's a potent blend of sexy, and the right blonde has to pull it off. Alex Pettyfer emerged as a frontrunner, but according to Deadline, he's lost the role to Jamie Campbell Bower.
Campbell Bower certainly has the lean and angular looks for Jace, and won't have to bleach his hair to achieve his golden sexiness. He's also played his fair share of brooding young men, beginning with his first eye-catching role as Anthony in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" where he managed to steal eyes away from Johnny Depp. (No easy task.)
He's currently steaming up "Camelot" (where he leaves very little to the imagination) and will return as Gellert Grindelwald in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II." If you're still skeptical he lacks the charisma to be Jace, remember that Gellert is the wizard Albus Dumbledore fell in love with. Believe us -- Campbell Bower has the magic to be our favorite Shadowhunter.
If other supernatural adaptations are anything to go by, we suspect this is the beginning of a long and lusty fandom. Campbell Bower, you might want to talk to Robert Pattinson as to what you're facing.
