When you need an actress whose beauty could capture the hearts of Caesar and Marc Antony, you get Angelina Jolie, no question.

And when you want to make that tale 3-D, there's no one better to ask than "Avatar" guru James Cameron.

That's just what Sony is doing for their grand new take on the life of Egypt's last pharaoh, Cleopatra. According to Deadline, Cameron is flirting with directing "Cleopatra," based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Stacy Schiff's new biography hitting bookshelves next month.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland turned in what is described as a "brilliant script deserving of epic treatment," and Sony head honcho Amy Pascal sees this as her "Gone With The Wind," but the question remains whether Cameron can or will commit to such an undertaking, one that proved a budget-busting disaster in 1963 for Elizabeth Taylor.

The director with a penchant for Terminating has a lush deal at Fox, whose bean counters are salivating for him to make a pair of "Avatar" sequels, and he's also helping buddy Guillermo del Toro make monster magic with "At the Mountains of Madness." Additionally, Cameron has passion projects like "The Dive" and "Battle Angel" percolating in his mighty Canadian brain.

Sony may also have a rival in Steven Soderbergh's already announced 3-D rock musical called "Cleo," starring Catherine Zeta Jones with songs by Guided By Voices.

Whatever happens, we're hoping this is the theme song.
