Ladies, look at your man, now back to the article, now back at your man, now back to the article. Isaiah Mustafa, a.k.a. that dude with the pecs in the funniest commercial ever, is part of a non-deodorant campaign to get himself cast as Marvel Comics' Hero For Hire, Luke Cage.
Last month, we reported that the self-avowed comic book nerd Mustafa was lobbying hard to play Cage in a movie, and had met with the Marvel brass. Now it appears he's gone the next step by creating a short teaser of him in action as the character. The video shows him gaining his superhuman strength and durability in a prison experiment, as well as the standard beating up bad guys, sexing-up a hot babe, etc. Also, glowing eyes.
Sadly, your man can't do that either.
Amid the dog-eat-dog world of Hollywood casting, actors will do anything short of holding a gun to the casting director's head to get a role, and that includes creating lavish audition material. While Elijah Wood and Jackie Earle Haley's self-made audition tapes nabbed them lead roles in "Lord of the Rings" and "Watchmen," respectively, Josh Hutcherson lost out on "Amazing Spider-Man" and Thomas Jane lost out on "Jonah Hex" despite their best efforts.
Besides being a fan-fave, Mustafa has a bit of an upper-hand in that he was already hired by Marvel to portray Cage in a web short which parodies both the character and the actor's Spicey commercials. We'll next see the actor and former football player in this summer's "Horrible Bosses" playing a cop.
