You Won't See Sam Claflin's Goodies in 'Catching Fire'

Lionsgate Lionsgate

Fangirls (and guys) of the world, commence weeping: We have no chance of seeing Sam Claflin's no-no when he appears on screen November 22 as Finnick Odair in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

In the installment of Suzanne Collins' series that the new movie is based on, the rakish tribute appeared — to Katniss' dismay and the delight of imaginative readers everywhere — in a parade wearing only a golden fishnet with a strategically placed knot over his you-know-where. After all, he may be from the fishing-centric District 4, but if he has to dress in a fisherman theme, at least it can be a sexy fisherman theme. (Claflin is very true to canon with this point, making sure that his fellow castmembers told a screaming crowd at Comic-Con that he was "a sex god.")

But it's time for those dreams of shimmering fishnet to be dashed: In an interview with MTV News, costume designer Trish Summerville confirmed that Finnick's parade outfit will not parade his goods as much as in the book.

"You know, we're PG-13," Summerville laughed. She explained that she and her team had consulted with author Collins to see what kind of changes they could make from the book. "What we ended up deciding on was keeping true to the net. It's a fishing net. It's made of gold fabric. It's knitted-together net, and I made him kind of a kilt. It's more like a gladiator-type skirt, so he has that on, and it's belted, and he has the shells on his neck, which he keeps the whole time."

According to Summerville, self-proclaimed sex god Claflin wasn't disappointed by the change: "He was really relieved he has a longer skirt, and he kind of has tights underneath and kind of substantial boots. He's bare-chested, and he worked really hard to get into amazing shape ... I think it's much more interesting than just the net. It would have been a little too Chippendales."
