'Hunger Games' Star Alexander Ludwig Vying for 'Divergent'

It's a pretty common belief among us YA book-to-film junkies that Veronica Roth's "Divergent" is on the fast track to become the next big thing in adaptive movies. Between lightning-paced action sequences, hardcore dystopian kids and one well-restrained romance, all the necessary ingredients for a star-making phenom are built right in.

While Shailene Woodley's now been tapped to handle the central female role Beatrice "Tris" Prior, the gentleman hero position Four is still wide open, and "The Hunger Games" star Alexander Ludwig wants it. Bad.

Ludwig made his interest in the part known to the public by tweeting about a meeting he recently had with a producer on the flick: "Had an amazing meeting with Doug Wick (produced gladiator) about playing Four in Divergent. Need to get this one. Much love to the fans!"

It's commonplace for at least one or two of these young adult book-based movie franchises to have some fandom crossover (e.g., "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson first appeared in "Harry Potter," and co-star Jamie Campbell Bower now leads "The Mortal Instruments"), so Ludwig could carry the trend over from "The Hunger Games" to "Divergent" next.

Ludwig's likely got a bit of an advantage in the casting game for "Divergent," by the way. His father is Lionsgate's own board of directors co-chair Harald Horst Ludwig.

What do you think of his interest in the role? Is Ludwig the right guy to bring the tough-yet-so-handsome Four to life? Sound off in the comments below!

"Divergent," which will be directed by Neil Burger, is scheduled to hit theaters on March 21, 2014.
