We knew the Joker was down by law, but we never realized just how much until now.
We'll (unfortunately) never know for sure, but Heat Vision has conjured up pretty decent evidence that one of the main inspirations for Heath Ledger's particular interpretation of the villainous Joker in "The Dark Knight" may have been everyone's favorite poet-crooner-hipster, Tom Waits.
Ledger's characterization was indeed the sum of many parts: a little bit of Sid Vicious, a little bit of Beetlejuice, a little bit of Malcolm McDowell in "A Clockwork Orange." But we never thought Tom Waits was a possible ingredient in the brilliant and dangerous mix until now.
Take a look at the 1979 video with Waits below — the argument could most definitely be made, especially with the voice and body language. Maybe the Clown Prince of Crime believed that you're indeed innocent when you dream?
