Guy Pearce has done a lot of cool things over the course of his Golden Globe nominated career, but fighting Iron Man?
Oh, yeah, it's on.
The "Prometheus" star has just signed on to play the big bad in the upcoming "Iron Man 3."
To clarify: "The Avengers" is coming out in just two short weeks — they're not adding Guy Pearce to the cast now. But Marvel's shared superhero universe will go on past this summer and, according to Variety, Pearce his signed on to appear in the next chapter of Tony Stark's saga.
Set to begin filming next month, "Iron Man 3" brings back Robert Downey Jr., this time facing off against Ben Kingsley as a mysterious bad guy. So what are they fighting over? Well, that's where Pearce comes in, because he will apparently be playing a shady inventor named Aldrich Killian who endangers the entire world when his new form of nanotechnology — called Extremis — morphs into a deadly cybernetic virus that turns victims into robotic killing machines.
"Iron Man 3" arrives in theaters next summer, directed by Shane Black — and now it's going to be arriving with Guy Pearce on board. Now that's the kind of progress even Tony Stark would have to admire.
