Disney kept it pretty cute and coy with its first little teaser for "Frozen," but now it's time for all the twisty darkness of the chilly tale upon which it's based to come through, right? 'Cause they say it's a play on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen" which was not exactly your airy-fairiest fluff story.
Well, judging by this theatrical trailer for the 3D animated pic, nahhhh, it's still gonna be mostly just adorable talking snowmen and such (this is the Mickey Mouse studio we're talking about here). Andersen purists, steer clear!
For everyone else, meet Anna (Kristen Bell), a brave go-getter sort of girl who thinks she can go and talk her big evil sister Elsa the Snow Queen (Idina Menzel) out of keeping the kingdom under a spell of eternal winter if she traipses up to her icy lair with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), the
resident hunk reindeer-riding mountain man whose ice sales business took quite a hit after Elsa's frosty antics.
Also in the mix is a chatty snowman Olaf (Josh Gad) who actually wants summer back for some strange reason and the handsome Prince Hans (Santino Fontana) who's got his eye on Princess Anna alright — who'd choose a failed ice-slinger over a bona fide royal anyhow?
Notably missing from this new glimpse is the foe sister Elsa, who appears just briefly to throw around some icicles, but at least a few of those other weird baddies the trio'll face along the way were thrown in to compensate. Like the snow giant guarding Elsa's palace ... which Anna totally ain't scurred of, by the way.
... and these toothy wolves in the woods (also no match for her).
"Frozen" hits theaters on Nov. 27, just in time for the kiddies to be on Thanksgiving break.
