Ever since Lionsgate announced they were going to do a live action adaptation of the cult classic comic book "Judge Dredd," fans have been praying for one thing: Please, please let it be better than the horrible 1995 Sylvester Stallone version.
Well, the first trailer for "Dredd" has at last arrived — and it's up to you to pass judgment.
The story in a nutshell: Karl Ubran ("The Lord of the Rings," "Star Trek") plays Judge Dredd, a member of a futuristic peace keeping force tasked with laying down the law in a post-apocalyptic world. This being the future, though, the law doesn't have time for niceties like due process, so if he finds a perp, it's pretty much shoot on sight — especially if that perp is a drug kingpin (Lena Headey) trying to turn the whole world into hopped up, mindless zombies.
Add in one of those "rookie cops on their first big mission" in the form of the always cute Olivia Thirlby and... you have a film that actually looks to have pretty much the same plot as this year's cult hit action flick "The Raid," as the pair has to work their way up through a tower filled with drug addled killers. But hey: There's no sign of Stallone, so in our book that makes this a winner by default.
