'Fifty Shades of Grey': Charlie Hunnam to Play Christian Grey

More like Fifty Shades of Casting Announcements, right? Following her surprise morning announcement that Dakota Johnson would play Anastasia Steele in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie, trilogy author E.L. James dropped another bomb: Charlie Hunnam has been cast as Christian Grey.

"The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey," the author tweeted.

Hunnam, who starred in "Pacific Rim" and TV's "Sons of Anarchy," will play the mysterious 27-year-old millionaire at the center of the story. At least we know Hunnam is no stranger to on-screen thrusting, having gotten his start in 1999 on the UK version of "Queer as Folk," where he played the teenaged Nathan and did his fair share of the dirty. (It's not hard at all to find some very NSFW clips of Hunnam.)

After months of speculation, Hunnam, 33, has beaten out the likes of Alex Pettyfer, who reportedly filmed a test scene for the movie, along with several other upstanding gentlemen. Nearly two weeks ago, when Johnson and Hunnam's names were first linked to the project, Universal told EW.com that they weren't close to making offers for the leads, but that appears to have been a premature statement.

The story follows the evolving BDSM relationship of Christian and the virginal Ana. More than 70 million copies of James' trilogy have been sold worldwide, making the author Forbes' top-earning scribe of the year.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing the movie, which is due out next August and will reportedly be rated NC-17.
