'Fast & Furious 7' Rumors Are Already Flying Fast(ly) & Furiously

Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in "Fast Five" Universal

Just how fast are the "Fast & Furious" film? They're so fast they actually have gotten ahead of themselves, as rumors over who will be directing "Fast & Furious 7" are swirling even before "Fast & Furious 6" has hit theaters.

And according to Latino Review, the new director of the "Fast & Furious" franchise may be... the guy that brought us "Agent Cody Banks"?

Of course, the only reason we're talking about this at all is because director Justin Lin, who has helmed the last three installments of the high octane Vin Diesel franchise, has decided to call it quits. And with buzz reaching a fever pitch over "Fast and Furious 6" in advance of its May 24 release, thanks in large part to its still jaw-dropping Super Bowl ad, it seems like a lock that there will be a seventh film in the series. Not to mention Vin Diesel himself dropping hints on Facebook recently.

Which means it's open season for directors trying to make a bigger name for themselves. And Universal is apparently focusing their search on three names: Harald Zwart, who is best known for "Agent Cody Banks" and Jaden Smith's "Karate Kid" remake; Brad Furman, who directed Matthew McConaughey in "The Lincoln Lawyer;" and Jeff Wadlow," whose biggest film, "Kick-Ass 2," hasn't even come out yet.

Mind you, given that this is Hollywood, there's a pretty good chance that none of these guys will end up directing the movie anyway. But if there's one thing we've learned from watching "Fast & Furious" films over the years, it's that you can never be too quick to shift it into high gear.

Even if the finely tuned vehicle you're driving happens to be the rumor machine.
