Another day, another "Catching Fire" casting parachute!
This time, it's Chaff, that lovable District 11 tribute who's totally BFFs with Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson)!
Lionsgate has announced that E. Roger Mitchell ("SWAT," "The Crazies," "Flight") will portray Chaff for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and the physical description is spot-on with this one. Like the character, Mitchell is tall, dark and friendly-looking. The only discernible difference between them is, well, Mitchell has two hands (a little CGI will do the trick on that one).
Chaff is actually a really great character in "Catching Fire." He and Haymitch bond over their secret plan to save Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and, by association, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) from the arena — and, of course, their shared love of liquid spirits.
Also — major spoiler alert here — Chaff has a heroic moment with Peeta, which we desperately hope to see on-screen next November. He even predicts that President Snow (Donald Sutherland) might've changed the Quarter Quell rules to throw Katniss back into the ring. If nothing else, it'll be fun to see this guy plant one on Jennifer Lawrence during the tribute parade.
Mitchell joins a bevy of officially announced newcomers to the "Hunger Games" franchise, including Alan Ritchson as Gloss, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, Amanda Plummer as Wiress, Lynn Cohen as Mags, Meta Golding as Enobaria, and Bruno Gunn as Brutus.
Is November 22, 2013 here yet?
