Wonder Woman. The Flash. Aquaman. Some of the greatest and most famous superheroes in the history of comics are still waiting to be adapted into movies. But while all of those big names languish in the DC Comics. library, parent company Warner Bros. is hard at work turning another character into a big-screen attraction:
Lobo, the cigar chomping alien anti-hero badass.
And he might be played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
So just who or what is a "Lobo?" Well, for those of you who slept through the 90's, he's a big blue skinned bounty hunter who roams outer space killing people for money — and for the chance to spout off not-so-witty one-liners as he does it. Originally created as a parody of Wolverine, Lobo rose to become one of the most popular characters in comics 20 years ago thanks to fans not quite being in on the joke.
Now, though, Warner Bros. has decided that a "Lobo" film is no laughing matter and they've approached "The Rock" to play the lead. And that's just fine with him.
"Rumours of me possibly playing LOBO are true," Johnson announced on his Twitter feed. "Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun…"
Brad Peyton, of course, was Johnson's director on "Journey 2: The Forgotten Island," so just how much fun you think a reunion between the two on "Lobo" might be is a matter of opinion. Still, one thing is clear: "Lobo" is still kewl, while Aquaman, sadly, is still not.
Maybe next time, Justice League.
