Hey animation fans, hope you're not busy for the next four years or so, because DreamWorks has just announced not one, not two, but 12 upcoming animated features including two more installments of "How to Train Your Dragon" as well as "Kung Fu Panda 3."
At least you'll have some free time in 2017.
So why the big announcement? Well, until recently, DreamWorks had a distribution deal with Paramount. But since that deal expires at the end of this year, DreamWorks decided to hold off on announcing any new projects until they actually had someone who could, you know, get them into theaters. That someone turned out to be Fox, so now that a distribution deal is in place, DreamWorks can finally announce all the projects they've been secretly working on.
And they've built up quite a slate of pictures in the meantime. According to The Hollywood Reporter, their release schedule for the next four years includes "The Croods" (March 22, 2013), "Turbo" (July 19, 2013), "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" (Nov. 1, 2013), "Me and My Shadow" (March 14, 2014), "How to Train Your Dragon 2" (June 20, 2014), "Happy Smekday!" (Nov. 26, 2014), "The Penguins of Madagascar" (March 27, 2015), "Trolls" (June 5, 2015), Seth Rogen's "B.O.O: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations" (Nov. 6, 2015), "Mumbai Musical" (Dec. 19, 2015), "Kung Fu Panda 3" (March 18, 2016) and "How to Train Your Dragon 3" (June 18, 2016).
"Everyone of the movies in our lineup – whether it is an original film or a sequel to one of our beloved franchises – comes from the unique and special vision of our filmmakers, and we look forward to joining together with Fox to make them available to family audiences starting next year," DreamWorks Animation's chief creative officer Bill Damaschke said.
Plan your schedule accordingly.
