'LOL' Star Douglas Booth and Billy Crudup Living 'Life at These Speeds'

Young Brit Douglas Booth might be making Miley Cyrus "LOL" as a love interest in her upcoming film, but there won't be much laughing in the next film he's attached to. "Life at These Speeds," which will costar Billy Crudup, is an inspirational tale of one teen who turns his personal demons into amazing success as a long-distance runner.

The story is based on the young adult novel by Jeremy Jackson about a popular 8th grader, Kevin, whose random decision to ride home with his parents instead of taking the school van home from a track meet inadvertently saves his life. When the van takes a nosedive into a river, all of his teammates are killed, including his best friend.

Naturally, Kevin is devastated by grief and guilt, and he attempts to start his life over at a different high school. The only thing that really saves him, though, is running. Crudup's taking on the role of Coach Rowen, Kevin's running coach and friend.

"Cowboys and Aliens" and "Iron Man 2" star (and awesome dancer) Sam Rockwell is on board as an executive producer; he's been a champion of the project from the beginning. "I've been a big supporter of [director] Leif [Tilden] -- and of 'Life at These Speeds' since its inception -- and I'm very excited that Douglas and Billy have joined us on the project," the actor told "Variety." Rockwell's first producing gig was on another sports-related film, "The Winning Season," in which he played the coach of an all-girl basketball team.

Booth seems pretty pumped for this YA adaptation, too. "Sometimes a script comes along that really makes you sit up and pay attention… 'Life at These Speeds' has an emotional intensity that really kicked me in the guts. I love the challenge of playing characters forced on life-changing emotional journeys. To work on a project with Billy Crudup and Sam Rockwell is just a dream come true," he said.

We'll be seeing plenty more of Booth and those cheekbones of his. He stars as Pip in the BBC miniseries based on the Dickens classic "Great Expectations," and he'll be making the tweens swoon as Romeo in an updated version of "Romeo and Juliet" with Hailee Steinfeld.
