The man who would've been the perfect "Hunger Games" composer won't be composing any "Hunger Games" music after all.

Danny Elfman has long been the go-to music man for fantastical films, but unfortunately he'll be sitting on the bench for Katniss Everdeen's first cinematic adventure, according to Variety.

It was announced back in July that Elfman and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" musical mastermind T-Bone Burnett would be collaborating on the "Hunger Games" soundtrack, a team-up that got many movie music enthusiasts salivating. Unfortunately, Elfman has had to back out of the gig due to scheduling conflicts.

The former Oingo Boingo frontman will be replaced by James Newton Howard, who will be collaborating with Burnett in what Lionsgate assures will be a "seamless" transition. Howard has done well with musical collaborations before, working with Hans Zimmer on the memorable scores to both "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight."

Danny Elfman is currently working on Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows," which opens May 11, 2012, and "Men in Black III," which opens May 25. He recently scored "Real Steel," "Restless" and "The Next Three Days."

"The Hunger Games" opens March 23, 2012.
