When we first heard that Lionsgate was planning to adapt the popular pregnancy manual "What to Expect When You're Expecting" into a movie, we were a big skeptical; it's kind of like making a big screen version of "C++ For Dummies."
Well, consider us gobsmacked, because Lionsgate is continuing to defy expectations by putting together a pretty great cast for what is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing projects around. Case in point: according to Deadline, superstar comedian Chris Rock has joined the film, along with Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick.
It looks like this idea is pregnant with possibilities after all.
So just what are these two very different stars going to be doing in the film version of "What to Expect When You're Expecting?" Well, don't worry, they won't just be demonstrating breathing techniques or acting out illustrations from the book; instead, the studio is basically just using the well known brand as a way to get extra exposure for what is basicaly shaping up to be a big ensembles about different pregnant couples.
Rock, for instance, will be playing "a guy named Vic, who is the head of a group of expectant fathers who lectures them on what it's really like to have a baby and become a father." Meanwhile, according to Deadline, "Twilight" star Kendrick will play "Rosie, who reunites with an old flame and fellow food-truck owner and becomes pregnant."
Add in previously announced stars Brooklyn Decker, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Ed Helms and Isla Fisher and one thing is clear: Lionsgate is well on their way to giving birth to a hit. Now who would have expected that?
