Fans of Suzanne Collins' wildly popular "Hunger Games" trilogy have been scrabbling for information on the upcoming Hollywood adaptation for months.
But while the first "Hunger Games" movie is still being filmed, it looks as though fans are about to have a whole new topic to occupy their time: speculation about the adaptation of the second book, "Catching Fire."
Yes, move over, "Hunger Games," because "Catching Fire" is burning up the internet after today's surprise announcement that "Catching Fire" will be released on November 22, 2013.
Unfortunately, that's pretty much all Lionsgate revealed today about "Catching Fire," but we can offer a few other educated guesses. Chances are, for instance, that Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth -- who star as Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Gale respectively in the "Hunger Games" adaptation -- will probably return for the sequel.
A bigger question is why they have decided to push the sequel back to the holidays rather than slotting the film as a summer blockbuster. After all, "The Hunger Games" is scheduled to debut on March 23, 2012, so getting the sequel ready for the following summer shouldn't be an issue.
But whatever the reason for the delay, at least fans can now begin planning their schedules accordingly -- and begin what is sure to be two plus years of speculation and anticipation.
Let the second "Games" begin.
