Casting Roundup: Depp, Cooper and Rossum Get the Gigs

Johnny Depp at the MTV Movie Awards MTV

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

• Well, he's not going to be in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel," but maybe Johnny Depp will be in Wally Pfister's "Transcendence." Deadline reports that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is in talks to join the feature directorial debut of Christopher Nolan's go-to cinematographer ... the plot of which is, of course, being kept under wraps.

• You know, Bradley Cooper is just about as perfect for a Cameron Crowe movie as, oh, Emma Stone. The "Hangover" star is set to make his already ultra-busy schedule even busier as he's in talks to join the "Amazing Spider-Man" beauty in Crowe's untitled romantic comedy, which is said to be in the vein of "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous."

• If we ever needed a caretaker, we'd most certainly request that Emmy Rossum fill the position. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the "Beautiful Creatures" star will soon be looking after Hilary Swank in "You're Not You," the story of a woman with Lou Gehrig's disease and the self-absorbed college student who looks after her.

• Anna Kendrick is getting ready to sing again — but this time somewhat backwards. The "Pitch Perfect" star has signed on to play the female lead in "The Last Five Years," a musical love story that chronicles a romantic relationship in reverse chronological order from the woman's perspective and normal chronological order from the man's point of view.

• Suzy Bishop is headed to the suburbs! Deadline reports that "Moonrise Kingdom" star Kara Hayward has joined the cast of "The Sisterhood of Night," a supernatural drama in which a New Jersey teenager uncovers a secret society in her neighborhood, which leads to a good old-fashioned witch hunt.

• Movies being shot "undercover" seem to be all the rage these days. Heat Vision reports that Patrick Wilson, Liv Tyler, Marisa Coughlan and Matt Bomer just wrapped the sci-fi comedy "Space Station 76" without anyone except their agents knowing ... and even they may have been left in the dark.

• "Imagine" a cast like this! Al Pacino, Jeremy Renner and Julianne Moore have signed on for the family drama about an aging rock star (Pacino) who, upon finding a never-delivered letter to his 19-year-old self from none other than John Lennon, renounces his decadent ways to reconnect with his creative muse and connect with the 40-year-old son he never knew (Renner).

• Clive Owen in the directorial debut of the two guys who wrote "The Sitter"? It makes sense in some version of the universe. The LA Times reports that usually serious thespian will be bringing the comedy in "The King of the Castle," which centers on a philanderer who is blackmailed by a teenager.

• Who is that villainous rogue looking to spread crime and corruption? No, it's not Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard ... it's Rhys Ifans as Monsieur Lheureuse, the charming con man who masterminds the financial ruin of "Madame Bovary" (Mia Wasikowska). From comics to classics!

• Is it too soon for a feature-length "Hunger Games" parody? Hollywood doesn't seem to think so. Heat Vision brings word from the Capitol that Maiara Walsh will be playing the funhouse-mirror version of Katniss Everdeen, Kantmiss Evershot (har!), in "The Starving Games," written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the duo behind "Date Movie," "Meet the Spartans" and "Vampires Suck."
