All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

• Seth MacFarlane has scored quite the cowgirl! The "Ted" funnyman has rounded up the gorgeous (and quite funny herself) Charlize Theron to star in his new film, "A Million Ways to Die in the West," a self-described "Blazing Saddles"-type comedy about a sheepish farmer who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend leave him. Colin Farrell and Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain are going classical with "Miss Julie," director Liv Ullmann's take on August Strindberg's 19th-century stage play about the sexually-charged battle of wills between a wealthy socialite and one of her head servants, with the servant's fiancee popping up every now and then to make things even more interesting. Samantha Morton is also set to star. [The Hollywood Reporter]

• Witches are nothing compared to top-secret government organizations. "Hansel and Gretel" star Jeremy Renner has been assigned to "Kill the Messenger," a political thriller based on the true story of a reporter who lost his job, fell into depression and eventually committed suicide after he exposted the CIA's connection to the crack cocaine trade. • Things are getting scary for Cody Horn. The "Magic Mike" beauty will play a ghost hunter in producer James Wan's upcoming untitled thriller revolving around a police officer (Frank Grillo) and a psychologist (Maria Bello) investigating the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon a ghost. [Heat Vision]

Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace will soon wrap "Animal Rescue," after which they'll both segue into "Child 44," the adaptation of Tom Rob Smith's thriller novel that follows a Russian security officer whose belief in Stalin's Soviet system is challenged when he uncovers the existence of a mass murderer. • First of all, Zac Efron has a production company called Ninjas Runnin' Wild. And this awesomely-named production company will be involved in Zac's new starring vehicle, a top-secret supernatural thriller called "The Falling," which revolves around an otherworldly being. • It wouldn't be a Casting Roundup without at least one new gig for Bradley Cooper. The "Silver Linings Playbook" star is now attached to "The Man From Primrose Lane," the screen adaptation of James Renner's novel about a true-crime writer whose investigation into a strange murder mystery gets him obsessively embroiled in a chain of serial murders. [Deadline]

• Well, so much for that whole idea of doing a reboot. Anna Paquin (Rogue), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) and Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde) are joining Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and director Bryan Singer in muscling their way back into the "X-Men" franchise by signing on for "X-Men: Days of Future Past." [Heat Vision]

• There's more to Tom Welling than just "Smallville" and "The Fog." The former small-screen Clark Kent has joined the ever-growing cast of "Parkland," the ensemble drama taking place at Dallas' Parkland Hospital during the hours following the JFK assassination. [Deadline]

• Tom Welling's not the only new staff member of "Parkland" this week. "Safety Not Guaranteed" star Mark Duplass has joined the cast as well ... and also scored a role in "Mercy," the horror thriller based on Stephen King's short story "Gramma" about two kids who discover their grandmother is a witch. • You loved him as the maniacal Dr. Philip K. Decker, the monster-hunting psychiatrist in "Nightbreed." Now, prepare to love "Cosmopolis" director David Cronenberg in another rare on-screen appearance as he joins the cast of "Body Art," the screen adaptation of Don DeLillo's "The Body Artist," in which a grieving widow who discovers that a stranger is living in her upstairs room. [Variety]

Sam Worthington is "For the Dogs." The "Avatar" star will be headlining the screen adaptation of Kevin Wignall's novel about an assassin who agrees to help a college girl exact revenge on the murderers of her parents and younger brother. They probably end up kissing! [Deadline]

• "Sin City" can apparently always use one more stripper (who doesn't actually ever take her clothes off, but we digress). "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" star Julia Garner will appear as an "exotic dancer" who rocks Joseph Gordon-Levitt's world in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For." [Deadline]
