For the past 235 years, the routine has been the same for Americans everywhere: When the calendar hits July 4, it's time to dig your miniature flags out of storage, throw up some red, white and blue bunting and celebrate the good ol' U.S. of A. Yes, when it comes to patriotism, July 4 is where it's at — until 2014, that is.

Get ready for some spring flag waving, because Disney and Marvel Studios announced today that "Captain America 2" is going to hit theaters on April 4, 2014. Sorry, Independence Day. You had a good run.

Of course, just what fans will be seeing on April 4, 2014 is still a bit up in the air; after all, while star Chris Evans is signed up for the sequel, no director has yet been chosen.

And the story is even more of a mystery, considering the fact that Captain America experienced a 70-year time jump at the end of the first movie. Nazis in space, anyone?

Still, with Evans and Cap set to appear in Marvel's blockbuster crossover event movie "The Avengers" next month, chances are there will plenty of opportunity to set up new storylines in the present day, a development Marvel teased in their announcement, revealing that "Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world."

"Captain America 2" may not be Christmas in July, but it is Chris Evans in April. That's good enough for us.
