Tom Hanks gave it his best shot, but even America's most beloved actor couldn't knock America's most beloved actress out of the top spot at the box office, as Sandra Bullock's "Gravity" easily topped "Captain Phillips" according to Film.com.
With an estimated $44.3 million, "Gravity" pushed its ten day total to an impressive $123.4 million. Not that "Captain Phillips" was a flop by any means; with $26 million, the film represents Hanks' best opening weekend in years. The news wasn't so nice for "Machete Kills," though, which bombed out in fifth place with a dismal $3.8 million debut.
