Shut off the Bat-Signal, he's finally here: Ben Affleck will be the next to don Batman's cowl, Warner Bros. announced today.
Affleck will slip into Bruce Wayne's polished shoes for the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie, replacing Christian Bale, who refused buckets of money to reprise the role he played in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy.
"We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some," WB president Greg Silverman said in the release announcing the casting.
Affleck will star alongside "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill in the flick, which is set to open on July 17, 2015. Amy Adams and Diane Lane are also confirmed to return to their roles, and "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder will once again occupy the director's seat.
The 41-year-old Affleck will be the eighth man to play the Caped Crusader onscreen. He beat out rumored contenders such as Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling (as if) and Joe Manganiello for the role.
We don't want to count our chickens too soon or anything, but put us down for a solid bet that this go-round makes more money than the last time Affleck donned a pair of tights.
And one more thing...is that someone whispering a request that Affleck's best broseph Matt Damon play Robin? Why yes, yes it is. Daaaaamoooooonnnnnnnn...
