Ben Affleck Defends Batman Casting: 'I Handle S**t'

The Batfleck finally speaks, Gotham!

After getting some superheroiffic backup from the likes of Matt Damon, Kevin Smith and even "The Wolverine" himself Hugh Jackman, Ben Affleck has finally dared to emerge from his Batcave — no, but seriously he did have one of those in his house at one point — and speak up for himself being cast as Batman in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" follow-up, that "Batman Vs. Superman" project.

Appearing on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" last night, Affleck first explained the process of him being cast in the film in a way only he could (Holy hand gestures, Batman!).

"They called me up said, 'Do you want to do this?'" he explained. "I thought 'well, I'm not 25, man, are you sure you want me to do this?' They said, 'Come down, we want to show you what we're doing.' And it was incredible ... Zack Snyder's directing it; he has this incredible take on it — obviously you can't do what Chris [Nolan] and Christian [Bale] did with it, those movies are amazing, so he wants to do something different but still in keeping with that — so I ... thought this was a brilliant way to do this, and I really know how to hook into this. And I said, 'Okay I want to do it,' and people from the studio were like 'We're so thrilled, we're so excited and dadada...'"

Then came Warner Bros.' friendly heads up about the haterade that is the juice of the internet.

"They said, 'Listen, we want to talk to you because people go through this process and it's a little bit, it can be trying.' I said, 'What do you mean?' They said, 'We want to show you some of the reactions that people who've been cast have gotten on the internet,'" Affleck recalled. "So they sent me like when ... people who were in these movies who did a great job [first got cast]. They were like 'killl himmmmmm,' and it's like no he was amazing! You can't say that before the movie comes out. It doesn't matter what they think then, it matters what they think when you see the movie, obviously."

"I was like, 'I'm a big boy,'" he continued. "'If I could handle the Emmy snub, I can handle anything.' ... They said 'Just don't use the internet for a couple of days,' and I said, 'I don't ... this is not ... I handle s**t,' you know what I mean? I'm very tough."

"... And so I set up the announcement [and] looked at the first comment, it was like 'Ben Affleck's gonna be Batman,' and the first user just goes 'Noooooooooooooooooooo.'"

"I was like 'I'm done! We're gonna be Luddites for a while.'"

Amazing storytelling skillz he's got there, no?

Anyway, even though the Batfleck's on web strike for a while to avoid all the, um, passionate discourse about his upcoming batsuit fitting, he did have a little bitty bit of something to say to try and quell all those fears that he'll butcher the thing.

"When you see the materials and you see the take," he assured, "it's a very hard thing to describe without giving away the story and giving away what it is ... This is something that's really exciting."

Convinced yet?

"Batman Vs. Superman" (title still subject to change) is expected to hit theaters on July 17, 2015 (sans Bieber).
