'The Descendants' and 'The Artist' Rack Up More Award Wins

Fox

There's just one week left before the Oscars and Hollywood is in full countdown mode, as some of the final industry awards of the year were handed out over the weekend, including the Cinema Audio Society Awards, the USC Libraries Scripter Award and the ACE Eddie Awards.

And once again, the big winners were "The Artist," "The Descendants" and "Hugo," cementing those films as the top movies of the year.

Really, did you expect anything different?

"The Artist," of course, is expected by most experts to win Best Picture and its victory at the 62nd annual ACE Eddie Awards -- which is held annually by the America Cinema Editors to recognize dudes named Eddie excellence in film editing -- did nothing to change that; according to The Hollywood Reporter, the silent film won the award for Best Edited Feature - Comedy or Musical, while "The Descendants" took home the prize for Best Edited Dramatic Feature Film.

"The Descendants" also took home the 24th annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which specifically honors scripts and writers of literary film adaptations. As such, "The Artist" was not eligible (being an original work), but the field did include fellow Oscar hopefuls "Hugo" and "Moneyball."

"Hugo" wasn't entirely shut out over the weekend, however, as Martin Scorsese's ode to classic cinema won the top prize at the 48th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards, earning the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for a Motion Picture. So keep that in mind when you're filling out your Oscar predictions for your office pool this year.

The Oscars are set to air live on Sunday, February 26 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
