The competition to direct the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" trilogy is getting fierce.

As we reported yesterday, Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit"), Sam Mendes ("Revolutionary Road"), and David Slade ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse") are all vying to helm Lionsgate's adaptation of the best-selling young adult series. Now, three more directors have entered the ring.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate president Joe Drake and producer Nina Jacobson are taking meetings with Andrew Adamson of "Shrek" and "The Chronicles of Narnia" fame, Susanna White, who most recently oversaw "Nanny McPhee Returns" and... Rupert Sanders, a British advertisement director whose major credits include a Microsoft "Halo" commercial.

"The Hunger Games" trilogy is a post-apocalyptic tale about Katniss Everdeen, a teen gladiator who unwillingly slays her peers on a government-sponsored reality show while caught in a love triangle.

With both "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" preparing to release their final films, Hollywood is chomping at the bit to start a whole new teen-fantasy franchise with "The Hunger Games."

In the meantime, the battle for a director continues. NextMovie fans are happy to help with the choice; a slew of readers threw their support toward Slade, while one voice of dissent suggested "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan.
