'Why Can't Spider-Man Be Gay?' Asks Andrew Garfield

"Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a gay man can..."

Why can't Peter Parker be gay or bisexual? That's what Andrew Garfield wants to know. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2" star revealed that he's half-seriously/half-jokingly pressured producers to make "M.J." a dude.

"Why can't we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality?" he says he told producer Matt Tolmach. "It's hardly even groundbreaking!... So why can't he be gay? Why can't he be into boys?"

Spider-Man has certainly had many incarnations in the comic books, from high school kid, to college student, from a "clone" storyline to the alien symbiote that became Venom, to a futuristic version, to the Ultimate (non-white) version. Garfield is right: there's absolutely no reason why Peter Parker can't be gay, or bisexual, or even just bi-curious, like anyone else in the real world. Why should Northstar and Batwoman have all the gay comics fun? Garfield has thought it through so much, he even has someone in mind.

Ever since he started watching HBO's "The Wire," Garfield has been "obsessed" with Michael B. Jordan. "He's so charismatic and talented. It'd be even better — we'd have interracial bisexuality!"

EW caught up with "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" director Marc Webb, who had clearly heard it all before.

"Michael B. Jordan, I know," he said.

We're in — er, or should we say out? — if you are.
