'Alien' Prequel Won't Hatch Until 2013?

"Alien"

In space, no one can hear you scream, but you can hear us roaring in frustration now that Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel may be delayed until 2013.

According to Scriptflags, the otherworldly sci-fi horrorfest was due to begin principal photography in February, with "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star Noomi Rapace duking it out against "Girl With the Neon Suit" Olivia Wilde for the lead role of a Colonial Marine general, presumably a "no-nonsense" one with a giant gun.

Now they're reporting the two-part project won't see the light of day until a year after its originally-projected 2012 release, with Part 2 dropping a year later in 2014. Although this is devastating news for all of us hungry for our fix of acid-bleeding Xenomorph action, it should come as no surprise given the alleged friction between Scott and 20th Century Fox over budget and rating.

Nevertheless, the studio is high on "Lost" creator Damon Lindelof's script, which will trace the origins of the fateful derelict spaceship containing the eggs of those facehuggin', mouth impregnatin' alien sons'abitches which Sigourney Weaver & Co. first laid eyes upon in 1979's "Alien." It will also tell us what happened to that poor giant pilot fella known as the "Space Jockey" and if he, in fact, had his 5-Hour Energy drink before a baby monster burst out of his chest.

Despite all this hullabaloo, hopefully Scott's return to gothic space terror will still happen and match the wild expectations of fans clamoring for the franchise's return-to-form. All we know is if anything else happens to set this film back, you might hear yelling that sounds like this.
