MTV announced the first details of this year's MTV Movie Awards and, thanks to a slew of brand new categories including "Best Music," this year's event is guaranteed to be full of fun.
Fun. the band, that is, as MTV also revealed that the chart topping group behind the hit single "We Are Young" will be performing live in a special performance celebrating the greatest party films of all time.
Is it June yet?
Set to air live on MTV on Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards will introduce five new categories to the mix: "Best Cast," "Best On-Screen Transformation," "Best Gut-Wrenching Performance," "Best On-Screen Dirt Bag" and "Best Music," which will allow fans to "vote for a specific movie moment when the perfect song played during the perfect scene."
And the "Power of the Popcorn" won't stop there, as viewers will also be able to cast votes for "Movie of the Year" candidates throughout the live broadcast, meaning the results won't be determined until the envelope is actually torn open on stage. The rest of the awards, however, will be voted on by a newly-installed "academy" of actors, producers, agents and other industry insiders, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Held annually since 1992, the broadcast of the MTV Movie Awards is one of the biggest television and pop culture events of the year, with some of the biggest stars in film and music appearing live to perform and present awards. This year's line-up of special guests is still to be revealed, but in the meantime, here's a full list of categories:
