According to director Brian Singer's Twitter feed, "American Horror Story" star Evan Peters has just signed on to play Pietro Maximoff, aka the mutant superhero known as Quicksilver, in Singer's 2014 comic book epic "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

Just one problem: Joss Whedon has already revealed that Quicksilver is going to appear in 2015's "The Avengers 2."

Uh oh, you guys.

First, some background on why this character is appearing in two totally different franchises. In the comics, Quicksilver began his career as a member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, helping Magneto fight the X-Men in the name of mutant equality. And this was before he even knew he was actually Magneto's son. However, he eventually had a change of heart, renounced his supervillain ways and joined the Avengers alongside his sister, Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch, another character Whedon has mentioned for "The Avengers 2."

So he's had one foot in both camps for a long time, frequently crossing back and forth between the X-Men and the Avengers over the past 50 years. Which is fine in the comics, but presents some major problems in Hollywood, because while "The Avengers 2" is being made by Marvel themselves, Sony has owned the rights to "X-Men" for over a decade.

What's the deal?

"We both have them," Marvel honcho Kevin Feige told Superhero Hype last year. "There's a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with 'Avengers,' but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto's relatives, but cannot have anything to do with 'The Avengers.'"

It's interesting to note that Singer's tweet originally read "before he was an #Avenger, he was just a really fast kid." But that part has been deleted from the casting announcement. Hmm.

Just what this actually means for "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "The Avengers 2" is unclear. Will the movies feature completely different versions of the same character? Or are Sony and Marvel working together, meaning Peters would also appear in "Avengers 2" as Quicksilver (Saoirse Ronan is said to be in talks to play the Scarlet Witch in "Avengers 2" for whatever it's worth. Could they even be setting up a future crossover between the two movie universes? Or is that all just wishful thinking and this instead is simply a giant superhero clusterf**k bound to give confused moviegoers a massive headache?

One thing is for sure: Even Stan Lee couldn't write a melodrama like this. We can't wait to see what happens next.

Some movies pretty much just sell themselves. And that's the case with "We're the Millers," which features the comedy team of Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston as a couple of hapless nobodies who get roped into becoming international drug smugglers.

Thank you, lord!) and a couple of mismatched ragamuffins (Emma Roberts and Will Poulter), they'll just pretend to be a family taking a good old fashioned family vacation. In an old fashioned RV full of pot.

So it's basically like "Natural Born Killers" except with Willie Nelson jokes instead of decapitations, not to mention half the cast of "Horrible Bosses." See, what did we tell you? This movie practically sells itself!

Ever have one of those dreams where you're totally macking on this hot mutant, only then it turns out she's dead, mainly because you killed her with your huge metal claws, and then you wake up and it's all some sort of uncomfortable metaphor?

Man, we hate it when that happens. Except when it happens in the new YouTube trailer for "The Wolverine." Then it's totally awesome.

Yes, folks, the July 26 release of the somewhat anticipated new Hugh Jackman superhero epic "The Wolverine" is fast approaching, but 20th Century Fox isn't taking anything for granted. That's why they've put out a new trailer that takes all the teasers we've seen to date and combines them into one uber-clip that finally makes the movie actually look pretty cool.

Which it should. After all, this latest installment in the ongoing "X-Men" franchise takes place after the events of the much maligned 2006 trilogy-capper "X-Men: The Last Stand," meaning Wolverine is in full angst mode after killing Jean Grey. And how does one deal with such things? Why, by heading to Japan to face off against hot ninja women, creepy old yakuza scientists and giant killer samurai robots.

So check it out. Because it may be a nightmare for Logan, but it's a dream come true for fanboys everywhere. At last.

It's become a bit of a tradition in Hollywood for the creators of pop culture-friendly franchises to hide a few Easter eggs in the film for hardcore fans to find and get giggly over. "Iron Man 3" did it just this month while Marvel's other giant blockbuster, "The Avengers," perfected the art last year.

But while those movies were at least sometimes subtle about their references and in-jokes, "Star Trek Into Darkness" has taken a somewhat different approach: smacking you right in the face with them at every single opportunity.

Of course, that's bound to happen when your whole film is taken part and parcel from the most beloved "Star Trek" installment of all time, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." But since not everyone going to see "Star Trek Into Darkness" has a Ph.D. in Trekkery ("Wrath of Khan" did come out over 30 years ago, after all), we thought we'd go ahead and break things down for the rest of you.

1. The Needs of the Many

During the high-octane opening sequence of the film, Spock (Zachary Quinto) finds himself seemingly abandoned to certain death inside an active volcano. But does he want to be saved? No he does not, in part because trying to rescue him would endanger to0 many other people. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one," he explains calmly — using the same phrase that Leonard Nimoy's original Spock used during his infamous death scene at the end of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

2. KHAAAAAAAAAN!

So just how legendary is Spock's death scene in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"? So legendary that they reused the entire sequence in "Star Trek Into Darkness," only with the roles of Spock and Kirk reversed! Yeah, that whole thing where Kirk went into the radiation chamber to save the ship and then died heroically while his best friend helplessly groped at the glass between them? All of it was taken right from "The Wrath of Khan." As was the epic scream "KHAAAAAAAAN!!!," which was originally delivered by William Shatner's Captain Kirk in arguably the most famous moment in "Star Trek" history. Behold the wonder:

3. The Mudd Incident

When Captain Kirk (Chris Pine, naturally) heads down to the Klingon homeworld to capture Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch), he disguises the expedition by using a non-Federation shuttle they confiscated during "the Mudd incident." That's actually a double Easter egg: Harry Mudd was a fan favorite recurring villain during the original "Star Trek" TV series, but publishing company IDW also recently put out a special "Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness" tie-in comic book setting up ... well, that one scene. Cool either way.

4. Nurse Chapel

During Kirk's initial flirtation with new hottie Carol Marcus (Alice Eve), she mentions that he has a reputation. How bad is it? So bad that her good friend, Christine Chapel, transferred off planet to get away from him and become a nurse. Which is a reference to original "Star Trek" crew member Nurse Chapel, who was played by "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's wife, Majel Barrett. There was also a brief reference to Nurse Chapel in the 2009 "Star Trek" film, so maybe at some point she'll actually, you know, appear on screen or something.

5. Dr. Carol Marcus

Speaking of science officer Carol Marcus and her flirtation with Kirk, hopefully you liked her, because chances are you're going to see a lot more of her ... and not just because Eve has already signed on to appear in "Star Trek 3." Dr. Carol Marcus, you see, was a major character in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," where it was revealed that she secretly had a son with Kirk when they were both younger, i.e. the age they are in the reboot. So that line she delivers at the end of the movie where she says to Kirk that "It's good to have a family?" Yeah, those googly bedroom eyes were totally foreshadowing.

6. The Trouble With Tribbles

If you were wondering about that undead ball of fur that Karl Urban's Dr. McCoy performs medical experiments on in his attempts to revive Kirk, then you clearly aren't a fan of the '60s TV show ... because "The Trouble with Tribbles," where that cute monster came from, is arguably the most popular episode of the entire series. In the show, the Tribbles seem harmless — and are harmless, except for the fact that they multiply at such an ungodly rate that they endanger every other species around by eating them out of house and home like a plague of Furbies. Maybe McCoy should have left that one dead.

7. Kobayashi Maru

Referenced both in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and in the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot, the Kobayashi Maru is a simulation that cadets at Starfleet Academy have to attempt as part of their training. One problem: it's a no-win situation, with Kirk only beating it thanks to some ingenious cheating. So what does it have to do with "Star Trek: Into Darkness"? Well, the Kobayashi Maru scenario involves being stranded on the edge of Klingon space due to a warp core malfunction — which is exactly what happens to the actual Enterprise in "Into Darkness." Well played.

8. The Undiscovered Country

Finally, we have to also give props to J.J. Abrams and company for branching out a little with their references beyond just "The Wrath of Khan," which they did with the entire non-Khan half of the plot. You know that whole thing where Starfleet Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller) tries to stage an incident in order to create a war with the Klingon Empire, going so far as to attack and kill Starfleet officers as part of his plan? Yeah, that's the plot of "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," which many critics consider the second-best of the original "Star Trek" movies — right behind "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." Hey, if you're going to steal, steal from the best.

Cannes is usually an international hotbed of film, but this year the Cannes Film Festival has become an unexpected epicenter for madness instead, as according to CNN, an onlooker armed with a starter pistol and a fake hand grenade staged an attack Friday afternoon during a live television interview with Academy Award winning actor Christoph Waltz.

No injuries were reported and police quickly subdued and apprehended the suspect.

According to the report, Waltz and BAFTA winning actor Daniel Auteuil were being interviewed outdoors by French cable station Canal+ along the famous Promenade de la Croisette when an unnamed assailant began firing shots. Waltz and Auteuil were hustled to safety as police quickly captured the attacker.

It was later determined that the shots were actually blanks. Additionally, the man was carrying a fake grenade.

"The bodyguards jumped over the barriers into the crowd and pulled him to the ground," witness Arthur Laiguesse told Reuters. "The police arrived and told everyone to run because there was a grenade in his hand."

The attack was just the latest bizarre episode to mar the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival, coming hot on the heels of a daring Thursday night heist in which thieves absconded with an entire safe filled with over $1 million in jewelry.

Here's hoping that for the rest of the festival, the action stays on the big screen.

"Argo" may have been the most acclaimed film of 2012, but there's at least one person who wasn't all that excited about it: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

And now, thanks to "Saturday Night Live" and the world's top Mahmoud Ahmadinejad impersonator, Fred Armisen, Iran finally has its revenge with the new viral hit "Bengo F**k Yourself."

Positioned as Iran's official cinematic response to "Argo," "Bengo F**k Yourself" features Armisen as Ahmadinejad as Affleck in a masterful tour de force parody of "Argo," Affleck and Hollywood in general. Plus it has the added bonus of featuring Affleck himself, who was on hand to both host "Saturday Night Live" and poke fun at his own film legacy courtesy of well-timed shots at "Gigli."

So check it out. And see for yourself why, when it comes to the Academy Awards at least, Iran has just one concise message for America: "Bengo F**k Yourself!"

According to Film.com, "Star Trek Into Darkness" easily won the box office this weekend, bringing in an estimated $70.6 million ($84.1 million with Thursday factored in) to knock "Iron Man 3" off the throne.

That was well short of the $100 million Paramount was hoping for. But it's still a pretty solid take, especially considering the strong competition. Not only did "Iron Man 3" earn a robust $35.2 million in its third weekend of release, but "The Great Gatsby" also took in $23.4 million in its second frame.

Next weekend should be a battle royale as well, as all three blockbusters will be facing off against new mega-events "Fast and Furious 6," "The Hangover Part III" and "Epic." For now, though, you can check out the full box office report over on Film.com.

So what would happen if you took "The Hangover" and replaced Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper with some of the greatest actors of the last half century? Well, as this new clip from Yahoo! Movies shows, you'd have the first trailer for the upcoming comedy "Last Vegas," that's what.

We can't wait to see what blatantly derivative "idea" Hollywood comes up with next.

Not that "Last Vegas" looks bad. Actually, it looks kind of interesting, based solely on the fact that it features Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro and Kevin Kline as a geriatric wolfpack out for one last weekend of crazy times before the old folks home comes to get them. Their excuse for their trip to Vegas? Bachelor party, naturally.

Of course, everybody loves a winning formula, so it's only natural that Hollywood is still churning out one "Hangover" ripoff after another, from "Last Vegas" ("The Hangover" with old people!) to "21 and Over" ("The Hangover" with young people!) to "Bridesmaids" ("The Hangover," only good!) to "The Hangover Part III" ("The Hangover," only we just don't even know why any more!).

But seriously, when we think of all the great things a cast like this could do... sigh. Oh well. If this is their last big screen go-round together, at least we'll always have Vegas.

When it comes to hobbies, different people enjoy collecting different things. Some people are really into coins, while others collect comic books. Your little cousin Eddie might be into Pokemon cards, while your Grandma Ethel might enjoy stamps. In the world of collecting, there's something for everyone.

And Disney? Well, as Variety is reporting, Disney is putting together an unmatched collection of superstars for their upcoming fable "Into the Woods" — and Emily Blunt is their latest mega-acquisition.

Move over, Honus Wagner.

"Into the Woods," you may recall, is the upcoming high profile adaptation of the popular 1987 Stephen Sondheim stage musical of the same name. Set to be directed by Rob Marshall (who won a raft of Oscars for his earlier Broadway adaptation, 2002's "Chicago"), "Into the Woods" tells the story of a couple — a baker and his wife — who head into an enchanted forest in order to have a curse removed and end up running into all sorts of shifty fairy tale types.

And it also already boasts a cast to die for. Not only are Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly in the mix to play a pair of handsome princes, but legends Meryl Streep (who will portray the Witch) and Johnny Depp (the Big Bad Wolf) have both signed on the dotted line as well.

Blunt, meanwhile, is in talks to play the baker's wife, who is the female lead. Just who Disney is targeting to play her husband is still up in the air, but based on the cast they've amassed so far, we're guessing it's going to be someone incredibly awesome. Quick, does anyone know if Leonardo DiCaprio can sing? There's also an open role for a younger woman, playing Little Red (of riding hood fame, of course). Did someone say Quvenzhane?

After all, when you have a collection this nice, nothing but the best will do. We can't wait.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters around the nation today and that got us thinking: What's going to happen in "Star Trek 3"?

And, surprisingly enough, there's actually quite a bit of information floating around out there about the presumed third installment in the hit sci-fi franchise relaunch. With that in mind, we've compiled all the rumors, revealing interviews and MAJOR SPOILERS into one handy guide.

So check it out. Because if there's one thing "Star Trek" has taught us, it's that tomorrow is going to be even better than today.

The Whole Crew Will Be Back

As the chatter surrounding whether or not Robert Downey, Jr. will be back for "Iron Man 4" has shown us, you just can't take anything for granted in the world of movies. If they can potentially replace the most popular and successful box office star of the past five years, they can certainly replace the cast of "Star Trek." Luckily, however, they're not going to, as all the major crew members of the Enterprise are signed on for a third film. And that even includes new addition Alice Eve, who joined the team in "Star Trek Into Darkness." Welcome aboard!

'Star Trek 3' Will Arrive in 2016

Or at least, that's the plan. 2016, you see, happens to the the 50th anniversary of the television debut of "Star Trek" back in 1966. And as screenwriter Robert Orci told Trek Movie, the folks at Paramount "are firm about having a movie out by the 50th anniversary and we are all trying to see if we can all make it work together." Of course, "Star Trek Into Darkness" was supposed to come out last summer, so these things sometimes just take as long as they take. But at the moment, the Enterprise is scheduled to take flight once again in 2016.

J.J. Abrams Will Be Involved

In case you've been living in a cave or inside a Tauntaun's stomach for the last year, "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" director J.J. Abrams recently signed on to direct "Star Wars: Episode VII," which is only the biggest movie event of your lifetime. So the dude is going to be busy. And that has a lot of "Star Trek" fans understandably concerned. But Abrams told the Belfast Telegraph in no uncertain terms that he will still be working on "Star Trek 3" one way or another. "No matter what if there is a third film Bad Robot and I will be producing the film, so we'll definitely be involved in it," he said. Whew.

There Will Be Klingons

The numbe- one menace in just about every version of "Star Trek" is, of course, the warlike Klingon Empire. And as fans who have seen "Star Trek Into Darkness" already know, the Klingons are most definitely lurking out there, ready to pounce — something they are probably going to do in "Star Trek 3." Discussing possibilities for "Star Trek 3" with HeyUGuys!, screenwriter Damon Lindelof said "You can never see enough Klingons, and I think in ["Star Trek Into Darkness"] we've given the audience a little taste, but there's also a promise that there’s a larger conflict on the horizon, and that would be fun to see." He also teased the possibility of seeing Q or even the Borg in future films, but for now, Klingons are apparently where it's at.

Khan May Return

Hey, we warned you there are spoilers. Asked about the possibility of Benedict Cumberbatch's Khan becoming a returning villain, Lindelof told Screen Rant that "I think that we would be incredibly stupid to not use him again." Now, that may not come until "Star Trek 4" or something, but considering how awesome Cumberbatch is in "Star Trek Into Darkness," we sure hope they use him again sooner rather than later.

There Will Be More Space Stuff

If there's any complaint we have about the first two "Star Trek" films it's that they, you know, don't actually have anything to do with a trek to the stars. Almost all the action takes place on or near Earth, with both films revolving around plots to wreck our big beautiful planet. At the end of "Star Trek Into Darkness," though, the Enterprise finally takes off on its five-year mission to seek out new life and new civilizations and boldly go where no one has gone before — which is where the classic "Star Trek" story began. So expect far more deep-space explorer-type stuff and far fewer sequences of people fighting on top of cars.

While most sci-fi fans are over the moon about "Star Trek Into Darkness" and the whole J.J. Abrams reboot, you may be surprised to learn that there are still quite a few "Star Trek" traditionalists who decry the new films as a monstrous blasphemy. A self-professed "Star Wars" fan turning "Star Trek" into a shoot first and ask questions later action franchise? No way.

And that got us wondering: Which is actually better, the new "Star Trek" or the old "Star Trek"?

Of course, the two versions of Gene Roddenberry's beloved creation are very different in tone and story, so it's a little like comparing apples to tribbles. But one thing they do share is the same characters. So in order to decide which version of "Star Trek" holds the edge, we've decided to match up the old and new versions, actor against actor, mano-a-mano.

Let the battle commence.

Nyota Uhura: Nichelle Nichols vs. Zoe Saldana

Nichelle Nichols had a lot going for her in the original "Star Trek" series. A true television pioneer, her Uhura was one of the few — if not the only — positive representations of African-American women on TV in the '60s. Thanks to the times Nichols helped change, though, Zoe Saldana's version of Uhura simply has more opportunities to kick butt and take names. She's not just the mysterious beauty on the telephone; she's a take-charge force in her own right.

Hikaru Sulu: George Takei vs. John Cho

We love what "Harold and Kumar" star John Cho did with the role of ship's helmsman Hikaru Sulu in 2009's "Star Trek," especially the awesome action sequence where he and Kirk battled evil minions atop a big ... space thing. But while the shout-out to the original Sulu's love of fencing was cool, it wasn't as cool as, you know, the original Sulu's love of shirtless fencing. And as anyone who is on Facebook knows, nobody delivers their lines with quite the same verve as George Takei. The man is a true original.

Our Pick: George Takei (Old "Trek")

Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott: James Doohan vs. Simon Pegg

"She canna take much more, Cap'n!!" Look, we love James Doohan's Scotty as much as anyone, what with his deadpan earnestness that you just knew was hiding some major inner snark. But in these modern times, we like to see that snark get unleashed from time to time, which is why we just have to give the edge to Simon Pegg. Sure, the broader comedy may not sit well with purists, but for the rest of us, we'll take Pegg wherever we can get it. And these days, we get it from the inside of a starship.

Our Pick: Simon Pegg (New "Trek")

Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: DeForest Kelley vs. Karl Urban

Maybe the most underrated member of the original ensemble, DeForest Kelley actually had a long and successful career in westerns before joining the cast of "Star Trek." And while the rest of the cast was doing their Peace Corps in Space thing, Kelley's cynical Dr. Leonard McCoy was keeping things grounded with old-fashioned pessimism. Karl Urban is excellent in the new films, but he's essentially doing a really good DeForest Kelley impersonation ... which means that in this competition, he's dead, Jim.

Our Pick: DeForest Kelley (Old "Trek")

Pavel Chekov: Walter Koenig vs. Anton Yelchin

This fact may be a bit lost in time now, but Ensign Pavel Chekov wasn't even in the first season of "Star Trek." Instead, Walter Koenig joined the crew in Season Two in order to give the kids a bit of youthful eye candy. So while he had his moments in subsequent episodes and movies, Chekov wasn't exactly the most important member of the Enterprise contingent; still, just standing around the bridge gave Koenig more to do than Anton Yelchin in the 2009 reboot. Seriously, Yelchin got like two lines of dialogue. Of all the battles in this throwdown, this is the most one-sided, mainly because Yelchin just never got a chance to shine.

Our Pick: By default, it's Walter Koenig (Old "Trek")

Khan: Ricardo Montalban vs. Benedict Cumberbatch

Ricardo Montalban is, of course, a worldwide icon. And he cemented his legacy with the all-time classic film, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," where he seemed to be sporting a set of fake pecs made out of pure Corinthian leather. Still, Benedict Cumberbatch can bring the intensity like few actors of this or any other generation; seriously, the guy looks dangerously insane every time he opens his eyes. He may not have the suave charisma of Montalban — hey, who does? — but when it comes to exuding menace, Cumberbatch has few peers.

Our Pick: Benedict Cumberbatch (New "Trek")

Spock: Leonard Nimoy vs. Zachary Quinto

What's cool here is that these two have become good friends in real life. Have you guys seen that cool Audi commercial where they go head to head? They are so adorkable together! We're really tempted to call this one a draw, except, well, there's a reason Nimoy ended up winning in the commercial. Because he's awesome, that's why. And we have a feeling that Quinto would be more than happy to concede the title of Top Spock to Nimoy for as long as Nimoy wants it.

Our Pick: Leonard Nimoy (Old "Trek")

James T. Kirk: William Shatner vs. Chris Pine

This is probably the toughest to judge of all the match-ups. On the one hand, William Shatner is a living legend, having brought us not just Kirk but also T.J. Hooker, the Priceline Negotiator and a surprisingly nuanced singing career. Plus, have you ever seen the 1966 horror movie "Incubus"? It's entirely in Esperanto! But this isn't about how awesome Shatner is, it's about how cool James T. Kirk is, and we have to say that Chris Pine has taken a character who had slipped a little bit into caricature over the years and made him fresh and vital again. Honestly, we just can't pick a favorite. They are both great.

Our Pick: Tie! Yes, we copped out.

Final Score

The classic "Star Trek" crew edges out the new "Star Trek" crew by a score of 4-3-1. But the new "Trek" could easily reverse that result if they find something for Anton Yelchin's Chekov to do. In other words, this game may be over but the rivalry is just getting underway.

"We have people who understand the deep science of linguistics and we also have people who are passionate about the "Star Trek" franchise," Beilinson said. "This was a labor of love from a lot of different avenues."

Naturally, it was also a labor of money, as Microsoft has formed a partnership with "Star Trek's" parent company Paramount. So that likely had something (or everything) to do with this development as well. "Recognizing Klingon language on the Bing translator, along with other elements of this partnership, truly underscores the pop culture relevance of the film," Paramount marketing exec LeeAnne Stables said.

We've all heard of fairy tale endings, but the upcoming musical "Into the Woods" is having a real fairy tale beginning, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are the latest superstars set to join the party.

It's almost enough to make you randomly burst into fanciful song, isn't it?

Which is exactly what Pine and Gyllenhaal will be doing if they do end up landing the coveted roles of fairy tale brothers and princes who end up wooing Cinderella and Rapunzel in this adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's popular Broadway musical "Into the Woods." Both Pine and Gyllenhaal reportedly had to belt out some showtunes for director Rob Marshall ("Chicago"), which, seriously, we can only imagine how adorkable that was, especially since the signature song for the princes, "Agony," is a duet about how awesome they are. Agreed! Just please let's all imagine Captain Fine Pine and Donnie Darko Gyllenhaal singing this...while wearing breeches, probably:

Even more exciting is the prospect of the hunky duo joining what is quickly becoming one of the most star-studded casts in recent memory. After all, Marshall's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" star Johnny Depp has already inked a deal to play the lecherous Big Bad Wolf, while Meryl Streep (aka the Greatest of All Time) will be playing the villainous Witch.

Just who will actually be portraying the stars in this story about a baker and his wife who try to remove a family curse is yet to be determined, but at this rate, does it even matter? With Pine, Gyllenhaal, Depp and Streep all in the mix, it looks like for film fans, this is one fairly tale where wishes really do come true.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" blasts into theaters (and, uh, darkness) this week and for most fans, it's a pretty damn exciting moment — all their favorite sci-fi heroes, finally back on the big screen, ready to save the future. Yee-hah.

But for some people, this whole "Star Trek" thing is still a bit of a mystery. So if you're one of those uninitiated that is curious about "Star Trek Into Darkness" but is intimidated by all the decades worth of baggage that comes along with the franchise, don't worry, because we're here to demystify "Star Trek" so you can go to the theater without a care in the world and see for yourself what the fuss is about.

It's a little something we like to call the Idiot's Guide to "Star Trek Into Darkness." Not that you're an idiot, of course. You're reading NextMovie.com, so that alone makes you elite. Still, here are a few things you will want to know, beginning with the beginning ...

What Is 'Star Trek'?

Created by Gene Roddenberry for television in 1966, "Star Trek" was pitched as a western that takes place in outer space. The idea was that the show would follow a group of explorers that was searching the stars for new worlds, alien races and pretty much whatever other craziness they could find. The crew of the starship Enterprise was basically a futuristic version of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Talk about your high concepts!

Who Are the Characters?

The Enterprise is helmed by Captain James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner in the original series), with his second-in-command being the half-human, half-Vulcan science officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy). They are joined by Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley), engineer Scotty (James Doohan), communications officer Lieutenant Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), helmsman Hikaru Sulu (Facebook icon George Takei) and ensign Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) ... plus a bunch of random guest star fodder known for wearing red shirts and dying at an alarming rate.

What Happened In The Original 'Star Trek'?

The classic "Star Trek" TV show ran for three seasons before being cancelled by NBC. It immediately went into syndication and gained a worldwide cult following, the members of which became known as Trekkies (or Trekkers, or any variation thereof). The show's retroactive popularity spawned a feature film in 1979; it proved so popular that nine sequels followed, with the final (-ish) entry, "Star Trek: Nemesis," being released in 2002. The franchise also spun off several hit TV shows, including "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-1994), "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993-1999), "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995-2001) and "Star Trek: Enterprise" (2001-2005).

Why Was 'Star Trek' Rebooted?

With the original cast aging (and several have sadly passed away at this point), the cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" took over the film series with the seventh installment, 1994's "Star Trek: Generations." Diminishing box office returns ("Star Trek: Nemesis" only managed to bring in $68 million worldwide) along with rising costs for stars like Patrick Stewart, who had become an A-lister thanks to his role in "X-Men," eventually forced parent company Paramount to shut things down. And with no new "Star Trek" shows in production, another generational swap was out of the cards. Something more drastic had to be done.

What Happened In the New 'Star Trek'?

Faced with over 40 years of mythology and continuity — a pretty big entry bar for potential new fans — new director J.J. Abrams decided to do that drastic something by chucking most of it out the window. In the 2009 series reboot "Star Trek," time travelers (including Leonard Nimoy's Spock) accidentally created an alternate universe — as a result, the movie featured younger versions of all the classic characters from before anything from the original series had ever happened, meaning it was basically a totally fresh start. At the end of the film, Earth was saved (though Vulcan was destroyed) and a rebellious young Kirk (now played by Chris Pine) proved himself worthy of command as a Starfleet captain.

Are All the Stars Back For 'Star Trek Into Darkness'?

Yep. And that means fans will get a chance to see how Kirk's developing friendship with the very prickly younger Spock (Zachary Qunito) evolves, not to mention Spock's own romantic relationship with the highly competent and extremely ambitious Uhura (Zoe Saldana). Also returning are Simon Pegg as a more comedic version of Scotty, Karl Urban as the cynical Dr. McCoy, John Cho as the heroic Sulu and Anton Yelchin as the apparently superfluous Chekov (seriously, give him something to do this time, please). Even Nimoy is back as the elder Spock, despite his own claims to be retired; hey, some things you just can't retire from.

Who Is Khan?

In the original series, Khan Noonien Singh (played by the legendary Ricardo Montalban) was a genetically engineered tyrant from the 20th century who was revived in the 23rd century and attempted to impose his vision of a better tomorrow on ... tomorrow. He famously came back for the aptly titled "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," considered by most Trekkies to be the best "Star Trek" movie ever. In "Star Trek Into Darkness," a new version of Khan is played by Benedict Cumberbatch; just what his beef is with Starfleet is too big a spoiler to reveal, but let's just say that this version of the character is just as big a jerk as the original.

Why Is 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Set On Earth?

So, considering "Star Trek" is, you know, supposed to be a trek into the stars, it may seem odd that pretty much all the trailers and posters and whatnot heavily revolve around action that takes place on or directly above Earth. That's because this new, vengeful Khan is trying to strike back at the benevolent Federation of Planets, which is headquartered on Earth. Specifically, he's really got it in for Starfleet, which is housed in San Francisco, hence all the shots of the Golden Gate Bridge and stuff in the previews. Don't worry, though; the first "Star Trek" reboot also revolved around a plot to mess up Earth and it ended up featuring plenty of deep space action, so your sci-fi fix is assured.

Where Does 'Star Wars' Fit Into All This?

For the past 35 years, "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fans have had a not-so-friendly argument over which series is better. Some fans even thought that J.J. Abrams ruined "Star Trek" four years ago by making it too much like "Star Wars." Now, though, the two franchises are sharing Abrams, as the director has agreed to helm the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII." So with Abrams bringing the two biggest science fiction fanbases of all time together at last, does that mean there will be peace at Comic-Con? We'd have to really be idiots to believe that.

It's an age old question, debated by sages and philosophers for centuries: What would happen if you put "Harry Potter" stars Bill Nighy and Domhnall Gleeson together in a time travel caper? And now, thanks to The Telegraph, we finally know the answer: You'd get the first trailer for the new indie rom-com "About Time."

You would also get solid confirmation of Rachel McAdams' time travel fetish.

McAdams, you may recall, played the spouse of a time traveler in the aptly named romance "The Time Traveler's Wife." And this time around she is again being wooed by a chronally challenged suitor, namely Domhnall Gleeson, who is probably best known to most fans as Bill Weasley from the "Harry Potter" films.

Which also makes this a bit of a reunion, as Nighy — who plays Gleeson's doting dad and mentor in timefoolery — is also a "Potter" alum, having memorably portrayed doomed Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour.

So will the two make movie magic once again in "About Time?" Check out the new trailer and see for yourself. And trust us: When it comes to your own timeline, this will be 2:28 well very spent.

When it comes to gremlins, there are certain hard and fast rules one should keep in mind at all times: Never expose them to direct sunlight, never get them wet, and never, ever feed them after midnight.

But nobody said anything about never doing any remakes with them.

Which is either a very good thing or a grave oversight depending on your point of view, because according to Bloody Disgusting, the 1984 cult classic "Gremlins" is indeed being remade — and Seth Grahame-Smith is going to be producing it.

Grahame-Smith, of course, is best known to most movie fans not as a producer but as a writer, thanks to the screenplays he wrote for "Dark Shadows" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," which was adapted from his own novel of the same name.

Both of those movies were box office bombs. And they were both savaged by critics. So while we're a bit conflicted to begin with over the idea of remaking a classic like "Gremlins," any enthusiasm we may have felt over seeing cute little Gizmo and his sadistic offspring again is kind of muted. And by kind of muted we mean, seriously, is Seth Grahame-Smith really the best they could do?

Of course, so far Grahame-Smith is just set to produce alongside David Katzenberg (son of the slightly more famous Hollywood figure Jeffrey Katzenberg), so maybe they will find someone good to write it. Otherwise, they might want to expose their critics to sunlight right now.

Because otherwise, those grumpy critics are pretty much guaranteed to start multiplying.

Camelot

Inspiration can strike at the strangest times and places. So, of course, can utter nonsense. But rarely have the two hit the same place at the same time — until right now, as Deadline is reporting that Hollywood is planning to make a feature film based on the restaurant chain Medieval Times.

Frankly, we were hoping for "Applebee's Into Darkness," but this will do.

For those of you who somehow haven't had the intense pleasure of spending an evening in the company of fast food knights at the world's most unlikely restaurant chain, Medieval Times is a theme eatery which boasts both old fashioned cooking and a wait staff that occasionally dons armor and fights each other to the death on horseback.  And by "occasionally" we mean "every night," because Renaissance Faire faux-fighting is basically the main reason to go to Medieval Times.

And now it's going to be the main reason to go to the theater as well, at least if production companies Benderspink (who are at least partially responsible for the upcoming comedy "The Hangover Part III") and Broken Road have anything to say about it.

We're not entirely sure how this came about, though we're guessing it happened as some executive was gnawing on a charred lamb bone while watching paladins joust. "It will be like 'Game of Thrones' meets... food. Eureka!!!" Though on the other hand, this formula did work for "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle," so anything is possible.

But honestly, guys. A movie based on Medieval Times? There just is not enough face to palm.

Now pass us that plate of boar.

For the past decade or so, critics and fans have put forth the theory that we are living in a new Golden Age of Television thanks to acclaimed shows like "The Sopranos," "The Wire," "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men." But if that's the case, then it looks like we just got upgraded to the Diamond Age, because ABC has officially picked up the coolest TV show ever conceived, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Avengers, assemble!

Spinning directly out of the events of last summer's super blockbuster "The Avengers," "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." features Marvel Studios mainstay Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson. Faced with more and more new superpowered menaces — and heroes — Coulson and his team of highly trained secret agents form the last line of defense between us and the world of supermen.

Of course, fans might be curious to know just how Coulson is around to lead this team, considering he apparently died at the hands of Loki in "The Avengers." That information, unfortunately, is not really hinted at in the trailer. But considering the series pilot is directed by "Avengers" mastermind Joss Whedon, chances are "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." features plenty of cool Easter eggs designed to answer that question and many, many others as it ties together all the crazy strands of Marvel's big screen universe.

Now this is what we call real destination television.

He may share one of the most famous names in pop culture, but Michael B. Jordan is well on his way to making a name for himself, thanks to critically acclaimed efforts like the Sundance Film Festival favorite "Fruitvale Station."

Winner of both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Festival, "Fruitvale Station" stars Jordan in the true story of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old Oakland man who was shot to death by police in 2009, sparking outrage and a national debate over police brutality.

The film has been generating major buzz, not just on the festival circuit but also among early Oscar watchers, thanks mostly to Jordan's breakout performance. If you can call it breakout, of course, considering he's already turned in breakout performances in "Chronicle," "Red Tails" and "Friday Night Lights." He's so hot, in fact, that he recently lit off an internet firestorm when word surfaced that he may play The Human Torch in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot.

All of that is in the future, of course. For now, check out the first trailer for "Fruitvale Station." And watch a star being born right before your eyes.

"Iron Man 3" and "Man of Steel" might be the superhero names on everyone's lips this summer, but next summer it's going to be a very different scene thanks to "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." But why wait when you can get your first look at the sinister Rhino right now thanks to director Marc Webb himself?

Yes, Webb has just tweeted out the first photo of Paul Giamatti in character as the deadly Aleksei Sytsevich. And he looks... well, pretty pissed off.

Of course, he also doesn't look much like a rhino, as he's not wearing his patented Rhino suit. So will he actually be suiting up in the movie? It's hard to guess. After all, comic fans were already surprised to see that Jamie Foxx's Electro looks more like a member of Blue Man Group than the traditional Marvel Comics supervillain.

So whatever. One thing is sure, though: Giamatti definitely doesn't need a costume to look scary. Save us, Spider-Man!

It was a near run thing, but in the end "Iron Man 3" proved to be too powerful even for "The Great Gatsby," as Film.com is reporting the Marvel superhero epic took in an estimated $72.5 million in its second weekend to win the box office crown again.

Still, director Baz Luhrmann has to be pretty happy with the performance of "The Great Gatsby," which outpaced expectations to the tune of a cool $51.1 million. Looks like "Titanic" star Leonardo DiCaprio apparently still has his period piece magic.

Of course, all that success and excess came at a cost, and it was the new comedy "The Peeples" paying the price, as the Craig Robinson vehicle earned just $4.9 million in its debut.

With "Iron Man 3" dominating not just the box office but pop culture in general, Marvel is pretty busy these days. Their Phase 2 is rolling out as planned, with "Thor: The Dark World" hitting theaters later this month and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "The Guardians of the Galaxy" both following close behind. In fact, things are going so well that the only major issue they're facing is how to find the time to put out even more movies.

Well, now we know their solution, as the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Disney Animation is officially set to adapt their first Marvel property: "Big Hero 6."

Okay, so "Big Hero 6" isn't exactly as well-known as "Marvel's The Avengers." In fact, chances are you've never heard of them (unless you read our report last year when rumors of this project first began circulating), so here's a brief rundown: Debuting in 1998, "Big Hero 6" tells the story of a group of Japanese superheroes recruited by their government to protect the nation from the sorts of things that normally trouble Japan, like giant radioactive monsters.

While the original story revoled around established Marvel characters from Japan like Silver Samurai and Sunfire, the center of the animated version of the tale is a boy genius named Hiro Hamada who uses his intellect to battle evil alongside his robot buddy BayMax in the near-future, culturally mixed city of San Fransokyo. So he's kind like the kid version of Tony Stark and his Iron Man suit.

Perhaps more important than the actual project, though, is what it signifies. Marvel has literally thousands of characters, but there's only so much time and money available to adapt them to the big screen. With Disney getting their animation operation involved, though, it's possible that we could start seeing even more favorite Marvel superheroes on the big screen, sooner rather than later.

And Disney has a pretty good track record recently when it comes to adapting pop culture touchstones into family friendly hits, as proven by the Oscar they earned for last year's crowd-pleaser "Wreck-It Ralph." Appropriately enough, as Pop Culture Brain points out, the first test footage of San Fransokyo even includes a "Wreck-It Ralph" Easter egg (check out the tower on the left):

Man, this whole Disney/Marvel merger thing is working out pretty darn well so far, isn't it?

Let's face it, it sucks when people die. Except sometimes in the movie, because then it gives filmmakers an opportunity to put together an amazing ensemble cast for one of those big family dramas where everyone comes together and their shared grief causes them all to say a bunch of stuff nobody should probably say out loud.

Like, for instance, in the new Yahoo! trailer for "August: Osage County."

Hey, if someone has to die to give us a new Meryl Streep movie, then so be it.

Directed by John Wells, the force behind 2010's acclaimed drama "The Company Men," "August: Osage County" is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name by Tracy Letts. It tells the story of a woman (that's Streep) coming to terms with the fact that her husband committed suicide.

That process is made significantly more complicated by the menagerie of family members and hangers on who show up for the funeral, including her partially estranged daughter (Julia Roberts) and her soon-to-be ex-husband (Ewan McGregor), her other daughters (Juliette Lewis and Julianne Nicholson) and a bunch of other folk (including Chris Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sam Shepard and Abigail Breslin among others).

In other words, it's a great story with an amazing all-star cast.

See? Death isn't always so bad after all.

The cameo is a time honored tradition in American cinema, especially in comedies. Everybody loves a well-placed cameo, right? Especially when it's someone surprising, like fimmaker Marshall McLuhan famously playing himself in "Annie Hall." That's some good stuff.

But when do cameos become too much of a good thing? Well, according to Hollywood.com, "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" may have just reached that point, as Kanye West is reportedly the latest random celebrity to film a cameo for the long-anticipated comedy sequel. He was spotted filming on an Atlanta rooftop with Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate, being shaded by an umbrella.

But with West — and so many other reported cameos — in the picture, we have to ask: Is there going to be any room left for Will Ferrell?

Of course, it's possible that Kanye's cameo will be incredibly funny. After all, he does have a long and well documented history of doing wildly inappropriate and borderline insane things. Just ask Taylor Swift.

Still, as much as we love a juicy cameo, it seems like Ferrell and director Adam McKay might be going just slightly overboard. After all, we've already received word that Harrison Ford is doing a cameo. He's not the only big name superstar, either: Not only is Liam Neeson in the movie, but Nicole Kidman is also involved, Kirsten Dunst has been spotted on set and no less a personage than Meryl Streep has been publicly campaigning to get her own walk-on part.

And those are just some of the stranger names associated with the film. There's also the band of usual comedy suspects, such as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson (who both appeared in the first "Anchorman" as well), Sacha Baron Cohen and Jim Carrey.

It seems like a lot, especially since the power of cameos usually comes from their surprise. And since none of these are going to be a surprise, we have to ask: Kanye? Really? Is that necessary?

Some say the world will end in fire, some say ice. From what we've tasted of desire, though, we're pretty sure it will end at the bottom of an empty pint glass — unless, of course, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have anything to say about it.

That's right, everyone. The first trailer for "The World's End" isn't just Coming Soon, it's finally, actually here. Can you even stand it?!

The latest comedy from the all-star team of Pegg, Frost and director Edgar Wright, "The World's End" thematically picks up where "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" left off, which is something you should definitely mention in the term paper you're going to try and write about it.

This time around, though, Pegg and Frost are part of a group of lads who reunite 20 years after they failed to complete an epic bar crawl. Now they're trying to recapture their lost youth. But there's just one little problem: Their hometown seems to have possibly been taken over by invading alien monsters. Man, it's always something, right?

"The World's End" hits U.S. theaters on August 23, but you can get your first full-bodied taste of it right now. Here's to the end of the world!

You've got to hand it to Natalie Portman, because the gal has some serious spunk. For the past umpteen months, Portman has been slogging away as both actor and producer, trying to get her western "Jane Got a Gun" made. And over and over, people kept royally effing up the production.

But now, once again, it appears that Portman has managed to get the train back on the tracks, as according to Deadline, her old "Star Wars" co-star Ewan McGregor has signed on to play the role of a sinister, no good outlaw.

All we can say is, the Force must be with her. At this point, she really needs it.

That's one reasonable explanation for the uncommon perseverance she's shown in the face of adversity. That, plus the fact that she's badass. After all, she is the Swan Queen.

Here's a quick recap of all the nonsense she's been through. First, in what must have seemed like a walking nightmare, director Lynne Ramsay simply decided not to bother showing up for work on the first day of filming. Seriously, not cool.

Then, once they managed to get Gavin O'Connor to save the day as an emergency replacement for Ramsay, it was co-star Jude Law who ditched the movie. Apparently he just really wanted to work with Ramsay, which is why he signed on to appear in it in the first place — as a replacement for Michael Fassbender, who had bailed during pre-production.

Portman, of course, simply cinched up her big girl boots and talked Bradley Cooper into filling to spot. Which was totally cool until last week, when Cooper also quit the movie. It's enough to give someone a complex.

Luckily, however, Portman still has something going for her: The fact that she's a beautiful, Oscar-winning superstar. That plus her long working relationship with McGregor was apparently enough to convince him to join the cursed production. And it should be interesting to see McGregor sink his teeth into a juicy bad guy role. Assuming, of course, he doesn't quit next week only to be replaced by Zac Efron or Gary Busey or something.

Whatever the case, one way or another, Portman is going to make this damn movie. Just see if she doesn't.

It's one of the most famous exchanges in the history of cinema: Han Solo and Pricess Leia's heartfelt goodbye in "Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back." Just before Han is frozen in carbonite by the sinister Darth Vader, Leia reveals her love and he simply answers, "I know." So insouciant. So perfect.

And as we now know thanks to SlashFilm, so completely different from what screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan actually wrote.

Yes, thanks to unprecedented access to Kasdan's handwritten first draft of the "Empire Strikes Back" script, fans can now take a look at some of pop culture's most famous moments and try to imagine what they might have been like if alterations — such as Harrison Ford rewriting his lines the day of filming — hadn't been made.

The original dialogue? Instead of just saying "I love you," Leia goes on a mini-speech, adding "I couldn't tell you before, but it's true." To which Han replies (presumably in a perfect Terminator voice) "Just remember that, cause I'll be back."

Yeah, not quite the same, right?

The documents also give a rare look at Kasdan's writing process, which includes notes to himself such as "figure out a speech pattern for Yoda." And he also extensively rewrote the infamous tauntaun sequence, with Han's original line being a simple, " I know this doesn't smell so good, Luke."

Frankly, this is so cool we'd love it if they published the entire first draft so we can see every decision that helped shape the "Star Wars" universe as we know it. But for now, we're more than happy with this brief but awesome look into the mind of a true geek god.

If you are a living, breathing human being between the ages of four and 110, then it's almost a certainty that at some point this month, you'll be going to see "Iron Man Three." And not just once but probably several times.

That's because every Marvel film seems to be jam-packed with secret references, hidden jokes and insider Easter eggs designed to thrizzle even the most jaded movie or comic book fan. Forget that RunPee app that tells you when it's safe to leave the theater; in "Iron Man Three," every single second could hold an encrypted message teasing "Howard the Duck 2" or hinting at a crossover with Daredevil or something. Seeing "Iron Man Three" just once simply isn't an option; after all, it's more than a movie, it's a pop culture test you have to study for.

So in order to help you get the most out of your second trip to the theater, we've put together a guide to 7 Things You May Have Missed the First Time Around in "Iron Man Three." Because you don't want to be the one with Easter egg on your face.

1. Dr. Yinsen Lives!

The film begins with a flashback to a 1999 conference in Bern, Switzerland, where Tony briefly meets and then blows off two fellow scientists, Dr. Yu and Dr. Yinsen. Dr. Yu has been getting most of the press, since his character is part of the film's China-only expanded release, but it's Dr. Yinsen who is of real interest to "Iron Man" fans. That's because Yinsen (Shaun Toub) is actually the same guy who saved Tony Stark's life at the beginning of the first "Iron Man" film back in 2008! Not only that, but in "Iron Man," Yinsen actually makes a direct reference to having met Stark previously at a conference in Bern, making the entire opening sequence of "Iron Man Three" one giant Easter egg. Now that's how you do it.

2. Just Who Is Tony Talking To?

In that opening sequence, we also get a voiceover from Robert Downey, Jr., who literally sets the scene for the movie by telling us the tale of everything that went down. But is he actually telling this story to us, the audience ... or is he talking to someone else? If you stick around for the credits, you'll find out the answer, because in one of Marvel's patented "secret" post-credit scenes, we discover that Tony is really telling the story to ... Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) himself! It's a nice callback to the end of "Marvel's The Avengers," where the two of them drove off into the sunset together.

3. The Credits That Will Not End

Oh, and speaking of those credits, holy smokes. We thought they would literally never end. But there's a pretty good reason for that: Marvel is screwing with us. Knowing that fans would be sticking around to watch the credits, the producers dragged them out for a full ten minutes, listing not only every single person who even thought about working on the film, but some completely fictional crew members as well. Just check out the giant wall of text that comes up when they get to the special effects department and you'll notice at least one patently bogus name: Gwyneth Waltrow. How many other inside jokes are hidden in the credits? You'll have to watch them again and play your own game of Where's Waltrow? to find out.

4. The Hulkbuster

At the climax of the film, Tony unleashes a veritable army of Iron Man suits. But while most of those suits barely get more than a brief cameo, one suit of armor in particular gets an extended closeup, as an immense Iron Man prototype comes running out of nowhere to hoist up a massive crane on its broad shoulders. In fact, the armor is so big and so strong, it resembles nothing so much as a metallic version of The Hulk — which is no coincidence at all, as the design is clearly based on Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor from the comics, which he created explicitly to fight and defeat The Hulk. So does the existence of the Hulkbuster suit presage a showdown between Stark and Banner in an upcoming movie? We sure as hell hope so!

5. Stan Lee, Cameo Artist

Spotting the cameo of Marvel's Chairman Emeritus Stan Lee has become a bit of a ritual for Marvel movie fans, as the legendary co-creator of Iron Man has made brief appearances in nearly every single superhero film based on Marvel characters in the past 15 years. Some are bigger than others, though, and this time around you may miss it if you're distracted — by, for instance, the beauty pageant swimsuit competition he's judging. Hey, what can you say — the ladies love Stan Lee as much as everyone else does.

6. The Secret of Modern Art

In previous installments of the "Iron Man" franchise, some of the coolest Easter eggs have been hidden in plain sight inside Tony Stark's high-tech lab (think Captain America's shield in the first two "Iron Man" films). And this time around is no different. Case in point: That weird big ball of twisted metal sitting in the background? It might appear to just be a random chunk of modern art, but look a little closer and you'll see that it's actually the mangled remnants of the Formula One race car Tony drove in "Iron Man 2." Nothing like a two-ton souvenir, right?

7. Giant-Size Man-Thing

Though the movie is technically about Iron Man, a great deal of its DNA actually comes from a very different Marvel character: the mysterious Man-Thing. In the comics, you see, the cult hero called Man-Thing was originally a scientist who was doing top secret research on plants in the Everglades when his wife betrayed him to AIM. In desperation, he injected himself with his untested formula, only to discover it had seriously unexpected consequences. All of that, of course, is in "Iron Man Three," with AIM using a formula based on plant research to give people superpowers. Need more? Well, how about this: The female AIM agent (played by Stephanie Szostak) who battles Tony to the death midway through the film is named Ellen Brandt, who is best known to comics fans as Man-Thing's treacherous wife. The character even has the scar on her face she received fighting Man-Thing in the comics! So what does all this mean for a possible Man-Thing appearance in Phase Two? Only time will tell.

Hey guys, remember a couple weeks ago when we mentioned that Tom Hiddleston was in talks to play the lead in the upcoming reboot of "The Crow?" Considering Hiddleston is still hot as hell thanks to his turn as Loki in the record smashing box office blockbuster "The Avengers," and that he was aggressively pursuing the role, it seemed like pretty much a done deal, right?

Well, not so much apparently, because according to Deadline, the folks at Relativity Media have decided to pass on Hiddleston after all and instead are planning to sign up Luke Evans to play the undead goth superhero.

In a way, of course, this isn't actually a huge upset. Evans, you see, was their first choice to play the role originally. But he was just so darn busy filming things like "Fast & Furious 6" and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" that he didn't have room in his schedule to dress up like a lost member of Insane Clown Posse.

Now, however, the bigwigs have decided that they just can't live without Evans, so rather than go with Hiddleston, they're just delaying the entire production until Evans is available.

Of course, the deal has yet to be finalized, so anything's possible. But for now, it appears that fans of Hiddleston will just have to make do with his appearance as Loki in this November's "Thor: The Dark World." And who knows? Maybe Marvel will let him put on some pasty make-up just to get it out of his system.

After all, as anyone familiar with the sad history of "The Crow" and doomed star Brandon Lee can tell you, stranger things have happened.

Ben Franklin once famously said that the only two certainties in life were death and taxes. But that's only because he wasn't aware of this weekend's box office matchup, which was as sure a thing as this world has ever seen thanks to the debut of "Iron Man 3."

And according to Film.com, lightning has indeed struck a third time, as "Iron Man 3" earned an estimated $175.3 million in its opening weekend to record the second highest opening in history, behind only Marvel's "The Avengers." That film brought in an incredible $207.4 million last year.

With "Iron Man Three" already destroying box office records around the world and inspiring fans across America to brave huge lines and packed theaters, the folks at Disney and Marvel are no doubt in full-on party mode. But while things couldn't be better at the moment, one very dark cloud looms on the horizon: the prospect that Robert Downey Jr. has donned the Iron Man armor for the last time.

So will Downey Jr. return for "Iron Man 4"? Or is this the end of Iron Man as we know it?

Sure, that may sound like a crazy idea, but rumors have been swirling for months now that Downey, Jr. will in fact be leaving the Marvel fold. And these rumors have a pretty credible source: Downey Jr. himself.

"Right now I don’t have a contract to do anything, and I did for the last five years," Downey Jr. told GQ recently. "How many genre movies can I do? How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?"

Then Gwyneth Paltrow threw even more fuel on the fire when she told Geek Nation that "I don't think there's going to be [an 'Iron Man 4']. I think we're done with 'Iron Man.'"

Marvel's response? No problem, we'll just recast everybody if we have to.

"I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark," Marvel's movie guru Kevin Feige told MovieWeb. "If and when he doesn't, and I'm still here making these movies, we don't take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it."

All those dire warnings have led to many to begin speculation over who might take over the role. But now, Downey Jr. is backtracking, telling Empire in a recent interview that "the only thing I ever let go of had claw marks in it."

"There's a little bit of soul reclamation going on," he added. "I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is: How do you sustain something? I'm not stupid, I like to play ball, I love the company, I love the character, and the business side of things, I'm not to picky about that either."

Which may explain why "Iron Man Three" director Shane Black is so sure that Downey Jr. will be back for "Iron Man 4" and even "Iron Man 5." "There has been a lot of discussion about it: 'Is this the last Iron Man for Robert?' Something tells me that it will not be the case, and he will be seen in a fourth, or fifth," said Black, according to Screen Rant. "But I can be a little excited."

Robert Downey Jr. coming back for "Iron Man 4"? Now that's enough to get any fan excited. Here's hoping.

In case you missed the memo, "Iron Man 3" hits theaters today. And not only does it feature Robert Downey Jr. once again kicking butt and slinging quips at the speed of light, it also signifies something more important: The beginning of Marvel's highly anticipated Phase Two.

Sometimes when fans go to see superhero movies they already know in advance everything there is to know about the bad guy. After all, everyone's familiar with The Joker or Lex Luthor. However, sometimes the bad guy is some relatively obscure figure known only to scholars of the source comic book — you know, like Bane or Thanos or Parallax.

So, for many fans, the biggest question heading into — and coming out of — "Iron Man Three" is this: Who the heck is this nefarious shadowy fellow who calls himself The Mandarin?

Hey, glad you asked. Otherwise this Mandarin Primer we just put together would have really been a waste of time.

In "Iron Man Three," The Mandarin is played by Sir Ben Kingsley. And he's apparently the leader of an international terrorist organization (remember that vague "Ten Rings" reference from the first "Iron Man" film?) who targets Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark as part of his latest diabolical scheme.

All of which has some basis in the original comics. Even the part where a Chinese villain is played by a very British actor.

First debuting in the Iron Man strip back in 1964's Tales of Suspense #50, The Mandarin was the son of a Chinese father and a British mother. Orphaned at a young age, The Mandarin spent his father's fortune to train himself as an expert scientist and martial artist, kind of like an evil Batman.

Left broke, the obsessed Mandarin experienced a serious stroke of luck when he discovered a crashed spaceship, which is kind of like hitting the supervillain lottery. Using the alien technology he found on the ship, The Mandarin fashioned ten rings, each giving him a different power, such as telepathy and the ability to shoot beams of ice, fire and electricity. In other words, he can do everything Iron Man can do, only without a giant suit.

Naturally, The Mandarin has undergone a number of changes over the years as Marvel ditched most of the blatantly offensive remnants of his Yellow Peril inception. They've since emphasized his intelligence and the fact that unlike many supervillains he operates under a strict code of honor, always keeping to his word. He's also died a bunch of times and come back, sometimes with robotic hands or the rings fused to his spine, because, you know, comics.

So there you have it, a quick primer on the villain known as The Mandarin. Now go out there and enjoy yourself some superhero movie fun!

What happens when the sexiest man alive teams up with the world's great living director? Well, we're about to find out, because The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Bradley Cooper and Steven Spielberg have signed on to lead and direct, respectively, the upcoming military biopic "American Sniper."

And it looks like the duo already has the Oscars planted dead-center in their crosshairs.

Based on the memoir "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History" by former U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, "American Sniper" tells the story of how Kyle earned the highest kill count in American military history (160 confirmed kills out of 255 reported kills, for those interested in the grisly statistics). After serving four tours of duty during the Iraq War, Kyle was dubbed the Devil of Ramadi by enemy insurgents, who placed an $80,000 bounty on his head. After returning home and retiring from the service, Kyle was murdered by a fellow veteran reportedly suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It's a story filled with both heroics and tragedy, which is likely what drew Cooper to the film; besides starring in "American Sniper," Cooper is named as co-producer alongside Andrew Lazar and Peter Morgan.

Now they've been joined by Spielberg, who will not only direct but also co-produce the film, which basically ensures that it's going to get the fast track from production partners Warner Bros. and DreamWorks.

A legendary director, an Oscar nominated superstar, a New York Times number-one bestseller and a real American hero?

Natalie Portman seems to have everything. At 31 she's got a new hubby, a baby, an Oscar in her back pocket and the epic mega-blockbuster "Thor: The Dark World" coming out later this year. So things are pretty great.

Except for the fact that she can't seem to lasso in enough cowboys for the oh-so-troubled "Jane Got a Gun."

Deadline is reporting that Bradley Cooper has just become the third consecutive co-star to ditch out on Portman and the troubled western. Yep, the third.

B. Coop has a pretty good excuse for flying the coop on "Jane," since filming on David O. Russell's "American Hustle" was delayed by the Boston marathon bombing and aftermath, but still so many stars keep bailing.

In the film, Portman stars as a woman who hires a gunslinging ex-lover to defend her family from outlaws. First it was Michael Fassbender hitting the bricks, with Joel Edgerton scooting into his seat, and then replacement Jude Law followed him out the door. And now Cooper, who replaced Law, is also fleeing the scene. Is the role just cursed?

Unlike some of the others, including the original no-show director, Cooper actually apologized for his sudden departure. "Regretfully, due to date conflicts between the film I am currently shooting for David O. Russell and 'Jane Got A Gun,' I am unable to join Natalie, Joel, Noah [Emmerich] and [director Gavin O'Connor] on this truly exciting project," Cooper said. "I was really looking forward to being a part of it and hope to work with each and every one in the future."

Just who will be the next patsy to sign up for this star crossed gig remains to be seen, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hiddleston reportedly all in the mix. But whoever they pick better be good at both acting and giving out comforting hugs.

Because at this point, Portman sure could use one.

If it seems like Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are talking a lot about a third installment to their excellent adventuring, there's a good reason: People keep asking them about it. And just think how frustrating that must be, especially when you're Reeves and you're trying to promote a completely different movie, like the upcoming new release "Generation Um." Does anybody give a crap about that film? No, they do not give a crap. They just want more info about "Bill & Ted 3."

Well, so be it. In a new interview about with the folks at We Got This Covered, Reeves has revealed that "Bill & Ted 3" is in fact coming along just fine, and thanks for asking.

"I haven’t seen a full script for it yet, but it’s coming along," Reeves said when asked yet again about "Bill & Ted 3," presumably adding a world weary sigh and a defeated slump of his broad shoulders. "I’ve seen bits and pieces of a script and it looks good. That’s all I can say about it for now."

While we do enjoy the visual of Reeves pouring over script fragments like he just discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls, we have to admit we'd like to hear some concrete details about "Bill & Ted 3" at this point, considering they've been publicly discussing the project for three full years (or is that decades?).

At least Reeves has other projects to talk about, such as, uh, the upcoming remake of "Point Break," which he's not actually involved with in any way. "Oh yeah I think it’s exciting!" he said, but we suspect at this point just talking about anything other than "Bill & Ted 3" may be exciting for him.

Sorry, but if there was ever a story that deserves some dramatic music, it's this one, as Empire is reporting that J.J. Abrams will indeed be asking the legendary composer John Williams to return to the "Star Wars" universe for "Star Wars: Episode VII."

For those of you who have been living under a rock (or inside the Sarlacc pit, being slowly digested for a thousand years), Williams not only composed the iconic "Star Wars" Theme and the equally iconic Imperial March, he's also been nominated for 48 Oscars over the course of his career. So, you know, he's okay at what he does.

He is also, however, 81 years old. And Abrams has a long history of working very closely with composer Michael Giacchino (Giacchino provided the score for "Star Trek" and Abrams' hit show "LOST," among other projects). So many insiders assumed that when "Star Wars" finally returns to theaters in 2015, it would be Giacchino rather than Williams making beautiful music. But at a recent press conference for "Star Trek Into Darkness," Abrams revealed that it will indeed be Williams supplying the score. Probably.

"For 'Star Wars,' it's very early days," Abrams said, "but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was."

And Giacchino thinks that's just swell.

"I'm a huge 'Star Wars' fan," the composer said, "but one of the things that excites me most about it coming back is the chance to hear new John Williams music, not new Michael Giacchino music based on John Williams music. I’m excited to hear what he would do, so however it shakes out, it would be great."

Cue the triumphant music!

UPDATED: It's true! Colin Firth will join Emma Stone to lead Woody Allen's "new, untitled comedy," according to a press release. The project will film in the south of France, making it Allen's second film in France, and his eighth in Europe.

EARLIER: Woody Allen is an interesting fellow. While most filmmakers come up with a grand idea and then find stars to play the parts, Allen seems to often do the opposite: He finds people and places that inspire him and then crafts the film around their strengths. Last week, we heard that Emma Stone was in talks to work with the bespectacled director, and now a male lead seems poised to join her, according to Deadline.

Let's all welcome Colin Firth to the Woody Club, shall we?

Bet you didn't see that one coming.

Not that Firth isn't a perfectly excellent pick. After all, the dude isn't just happy to see you, he actually does have an Oscar in his pocket. But it certainly is fun trying to figure out what Allen is thinking, especially when you consider that just last week we found out that his other new muse is going to be Emma Stone.

So will the pair be playing father and daughter? Perhaps a mismatched pair involved in a May-December, like in Firth's current indie release "Arthur Newman?" The possibilities are tantalizing, especially when you consider that this time around, Allen is planning to set his film in the south of France rather than in some world famous metropolis like New York, Paris or Rome.

Whatever the case, it will certainly be interesting to see what Firth can do when paired up with a master like Allen. And it's clear Firth is excited by the opportunity as well; in order to take on the role, he would have to rearrange his shooting schedule on the new Matthew Vaughn film "The Secret Service," which he's reportedly in talks for.

But hey, we're sure Vaughn understands. After all, it's not every day you get to be Woody Allen's muse — especially when you're a big strapping dude like Firth. This one should be interesting.

Willie Nelson is famous for two things: Being one of the greatest country musicians ever and being one of the greatest proponents of weed ever. Meanwhile, Gandalf the Grey is also famous for two things: Saving Middle-earth from the evil of Sauron and enjoying the halfling leaf far too much.

So it only makes sense that, as this new video from Team Coco shows, Nelson wants to replace Ian McKellen as Gandalf in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug."

Not that Willie is going to make a big deal about it, of course. After all, he's far too mellow for that. But since he does feel such a strong bond with J.R.R. Tolkien's legendary wizard, Nelson did put together this impressive audition reel to show director Peter Jackson just what the red headed stranger can bring to the table.

And as for McKellen, well, as Nelson himself puts it, "He's a good actor. But hell, I'm Willie Nelson!"

Hard to argue with that.

When the first trailers for "Iron Man 3" hit the interwebs a few months ago, one thing jumped out at fans right away: The debut of Iron Patriot, which is basically a suit of Iron Man armor painted to look like the American flag. Seriously, just when you thought Iron Man couldn't get any cooler, this thing comes along, smashing evil ideologies with the fist of superhero righteousness. U-S-A! U-S-A!

But that kind of got us thinking: Why do we need an Iron Patriot? Isn't Iron Man himself patriotic enough?

With that in mind, we decided to take a look at some of cinema's biggest superheros and rank them from least patriotic to most patriotic — because while truth and justice are nice, you can't have the whole package without The American Way.

8. Thor

So, here's something you should know about Thor: He's not actually human. And technically he's not from our planet at all, hailing instead from the mythical realm of Australia Asgard (sorry, Chris Hemsworth). Now, Thor is quite devoted to his home of Asgard, so in that sense he is patriotic to a degree. But when it comes to the nations of Earth, frankly, we're not sure he even knows his Asgard from his elbow. After all, the dude is an immortal god and has lived long enough to see every country in history rise and fall. Yeah, his sometimes-girlfriend Jane Foster is American, as are most of his buddies in the Avengers. But when Flag Day rolls around, well, we have a feeling Thor will be sitting that one out.

7. Kick-Ass

We know what you're thinking: What could be more quintessentially American than dressing up in a goofy costume and making a fool of yourself on YouTube, as Aaron Johnson did in "Kick-Ass"? But while there's no doubt that Kick-Ass is a red-blooded American boy through and through, there's little sign that he's overtly patriotic. Yes, in the upcoming sequel "Kick-Ass 2" he does hang out with a guy named Colonel Stars and Stripes. But we're not sure Kick-Ass has really spent any time thinking about patriotism one way or another. For now, he's just too busy being a regular kid — who happens to fight crime in his long johns. Maybe once he gets to college and starts taking Civics 101 he'll change his tune.

6. Batman

The thing about Batman is that he's so darn focused on his beloved Gotham City that he doesn't really have much time left to worry about the rest of America. And for good reason. Seriously, have you seen Gotham? That place is a mess! But beyond that, Batman has got to be kind of ticked off at the rest of the country for just letting Gotham get taken over by terrorists in last year's "The Dark Knight Rises." Plus, as we saw in "Batman Begins," Batman ditched the U.S.A. to get all of his training overseas. What, our home grown shadowy killers aren't good enough for you, Bruce? For Batman, the message seems to be clear: America is cool as long as it doesn't get in his way.

5. Wolverine

The man we now know as Wolverine began life as something even stranger and more bizarre than a mutant: he was born a Canadian. And on the surface of things, he doesn't necessarily seem like the most patriotic guy around as he spends his time wandering around in an emo stupor, drinking, smoking and threatening truck drivers with his built-in Swiss army knives. But as we saw in the flashbacks in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," Logan actually served his country in multiple wars before later becoming a government agent ... which just goes to show that somewhere underneath all that body hair, his heart still pumps out pure maple syrup.

4. Iron Man

When it comes to capitalism, no superhero embodies its ideals like Tony Stark. And we've seen how patriotic Tony can be when it comes to his work as an arms manufacturer. After all, when we first met him in the first scenes of "Iron Man," he was preparing to sell his latest inventions to the U.S. military. Of course, since then he's decided to go on this whole "philanthropist" jag, which has put him at odds with the American government more than once ... so there are some limits. But then again, we're sure Iron Man would tell you that being faithful to our nation's ideals is more important than being faithful to its government. Tony Stark is as American as apple pie, as long as he gets to decide which slice to eat.

3. Green Lantern

All-American test pilot Hal Jordan gets slapped with that "all-American" label for a good reason, and it's not because he was played by Canadian Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 big-screen misfire. With his wholesome brand of go-get-em courage and his devotion to the girl next door (in this case, Blake Lively, who is also his boss), Hal Jordan is a living embodiment of old-fashioned American ideals. Want proof? After being tasked with defending a large section of the galaxy, what does he do? Patrol space? No, he heads right back to America's heartland, presumably to take in a ball game. Sorry, galaxy, but for Hal Jordan, the U.S. of A. comes first.

2. Superman

Like Thor and Wolverine, Superman wasn't born in America. In fact, he wasn't even born on Earth. And yet over the past 75 years, perhaps no character in pop culture has been more closely associated with America than Superman. Based on the "Man of Steel" trailers we've seen, the reasons why are at the heart of Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot: Adopted by a good-hearted midwestern family, Clark Kent learns the importance of truth, justice and the American way, a way of life he strives to protect as only Superman can. Superman's origin has been described as the ultimate immigrant story, and who are we to argue with that?

1. Captain America

Of course, there's no real question which superhero is the most patriotic. The guy's name is Captain America, after all, and he has a friggin' American Flag painted on his chest. And his shield. And probably tattooed on his butt. In fact, he's so associated with the United States that Marvel Studios was concerned that international audiences wouldn't even go to see "Captain America: The First Avenger" when it came out two years ago, which is one reason why it got that clumsy "First Avenger" subtitle in the first place. Luckily for everyone, even international audiences love them some Cap, guaranteeing that a sequel (next year's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier") would be made. All we can say is: Captain America, f**k yeah!

For the last five years, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man has been the biggest badass in movies. Right from the moment Tony Stark made his first suit of Iron Man armor in a cave — with a BOX OF SCRAPS! — it's been clear that 21st-century cool is being defined right before our eyes. And so we can't wait to see what new awesomeness Marvel has come up with for "Iron Man 3," because whatever the plot ends up being, we're sure it will be great.

Unless, of course, he fights the not-so-deadly foe known as The Unicorn. Or, say, Mr. Doll. Or unveils the giant rotary phone hidden in his chest plate.

Okay, hard as it is to believe, even Iron Man has had more than his fair share of face-palm moments over the past 50 years. Luckily, the folks at Marvel have done a pretty good job of picking out only the cool stuff for the movies. But with that in mind, we thought we'd take a look at some goofy Iron Man moments you probably won't be seeing in "Iron Man 3." Because even genius billionaire playboy philanthropists can crap the bed once in a while. Speaking of which ...

Fin Fang Foom

If we told you Iron Man once faced off against an honest-to-God dragon, you would probably think that's about the coolest thing ever, right? Which it totally should have been. Except, well, just one thing: The dragon goes by the ridiculous name of Fin Fang Foom and wears a humungous pair of purple diapers at all times. Why does a dragon need a diaper? How, in fact, does a dragon put on a diaper? And where do you even get giant dragon diapers in the first place? These are thing you should not be thinking about when Iron Man fights a dragon, but that's just part of the charm (?) of Fin Fang Foom, the only dragon who officially endorses Depends.

The Iron Nose

Here's the crazy but true story of how Iron Man suddenly grew a huge metal schnozz in the mid-'70s. One day, Stan Lee was looking at art for a new issue when he asked, "Where's the nose?" What he meant was that the helmet was drawn too flat — there was no room for Tony Stark's nose inside it. Misunderstanding, though, and fearful of angering the legendary Lee, the powers that be at Marvel immediately issued an edict that henceforth, Iron Man's armor was to be drawn with a giant metal nose on his faceplate at all time. This lasted for a couple years until Stan got a new look at an issue of "Iron Man" and asked "Why the hell does he have a nose?!" Leading, of course, to its immediate removal.

Happy Hogan Is ... The Freak!

In the movies, of course, Happy Hogan is Tony's chauffeur, right-hand man and best pal. He's also played by "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau. In the comics, though, Happy also has another unlikely claim to fame — he's the supervillain known as The Freak. See, one time Happy got sick, so naturally Tony decided to try and cure him by exposing him to an experimental cobalt beam called the "Enervator." Personally, we would have called a doctor, but whatever. Instead of being totally enervated, though, Happy was mutated into a hulking, mindless monster that Tony rudely dubbed "The Freak," which is not a nice thing to say about a) your best friend who b) you frickin' mutated in the first place. We're guessing Favreau has put the nix on this dopey story ever appearing in the movies.

Roller Skates

Back in the day, roller skating inexplicably was a huge fad. We know, it sounds crazy, but then again, just wait until you have to try and explain Silly Bandz and Justin Bieber to your grandchildren. Anyway, the folks at Marvel decided the natural way to cash in on this craze was to give Iron Man rocket-propelled roller skates that popped out of his shoes on command. Of course, considering Iron Man can totally fly, these roller skates had literally zero use whatsoever, other than to allow him to challenge Scott Baio to a race on "Battle of the Network Stars." But we gotta admit they looked snazzy!

Leisure Suit Iron Man

One cool thing we've gotten to see in the movies is that Tony has built a whole slew of cool customized Iron Man suits to fit any occasion. You know, Deep Space Iron Man, Underwater Iron Man, Briefcase Iron Man (remember that from "Iron Man 2"?), you name it. But there is one version of the Iron Man armor we won't be seeing any time soon: Leisure Suit Iron Man. Yep. See, in a classic Avengers story, Earth's Mightiest Heroes faced off against the all-powerful Molecule Man, who disintegrated Tony's suit with a wave of his hand. Later, he had a change of heart and tried to remake it, but since he's not a scientist, the best he could do was to create basically a giant pair of pajamas painted to look like Iron Man armor. Dubbed the Leisure Suit Iron Man, this iteration made just one appearance. But seriously, we can't be the only ones who would totally buy this if they sold it at K-Mart, right?

Teen Tony

Oh man, this is just as dumb as you think it's going to be. So, back in the mid-'90s, sales on all of Marvel's comics were dropping like a rock. Desperate to come up with a way to re-invigorate the franchise, the editors came up with an absolutely terrible idea: make Tony a teenager! Sure enough, they ended up killing off the real Tony Stark and bringing in a teenage version from an alternate universe to replace him. The story is considered by many fans to be the absolute worst Iron Man story of all time and frankly, we don't disagree. Though there is one other candidate ...

Seriously, You Have to Read This to Believe It

There's no easy way to put this, so we'll just say it: One time, Iron Man's armor fell in love with him, went into a jealous rage and started physically and emotionally abusing him. We are not making this up. This is not a late April Fool's joke. Now, we're all for comics tackling real world issues, but on the other hand, surely there was a better way to deal with domestic violence and abusive relationships than having Iron Man's armor become sentient and start slapping him around in a jealous rage. One of the top WTF moments not just in Iron Man history, but in history, period.

Gosh, it seems like just four days ago we were reporting that Zach Braff wanted your money — all $2 million of it — in order to fund his latest indie project, "Wish I Was Here." And now, just 96 hours later (give or take), Braff has already reached his goal, as according to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Wish I Was Here" Kickstarter project hit the $2 million mark on Saturday and is now officially funded.

So which Hollywood star is going to come begging for handouts next?

Not that we have a problem with fans funding films they really want to see. After all, we'll be first in line for the new "Veronica Mars" movie that started this whole Kickstarter movie thing earlier this year. And if there's really no other way to get these films made, well, so be it. Plus, backers get all sorts of bonus swag for supporting the movie, like t-shirts, art prints, online advance screenings of the film and whatnot.

For his part, Braff is pretty much over the moon about "Wish I Was Here" getting funded.

"Dear Fans, I cannot believe your unbelievable support for WIWH," Braff tweeted over the weekend. "I wish I could hug each and every one of you."

Frankly, we're surprised that "Personal Hug From Zach Braff" wasn't one of the pledge rewards, but maybe the next filmmaker looking to get their project funded will remember to include it.

Because make no mistake, there are going to be plenty more Kickstarter projects coming down the line. Which ones get funded is entirely up to you — and your increasingly empty wallet.

After the overwhelming critical and box office success of "Lincoln" last year, fans around the world have been wondering just what director Steven Spielberg and star Daniel Day-Lewis could possibly do to top themselves. After all, Day-Lewis won the Best Actor oscar for his role as our 16th president. So where does he go from here?

Well, how about playing our current president, Barack Obama?

Yes, that's the brilliant idea behind this new viral clip, which comes not from the usual sources like Funny Or Die or "Saturday Night Live" but instead from an unexpected comedy machine: The White House.

Saying anything more would be too spoilery, so we'll just let this clip from last night's White House Correspondents' Dinner speak for itself. Because when you have a concept like Steven Spielberg's "Obama," well, what else do you need?

There was good news and bad news for "Pain & Gain" at the box office this weekend according to Film.com. The good news: Michael Bay's new comedy, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, took the top spot with an estimated $20 million debut. The bad news: It's going to get absolutely steamrolled by "Iron Man 3" next weekend, as Marvel's latest superhero epic earned over $195 million in its international opening.

Boom.

And the feeling that this weekend was just the calm before the storm carried over to the rest of the box office, which was down nearly 20% from last year. "Oblivion" managed to hold onto second place with an estimated $17.6 million, but the new romcom "The Big Wedding" was a big flop, drawing just $7.5 million in its opening weekend.

There are worse jobs in the world than being an artist's muse. Sure, the job description is a little vague — be inspiring, possibly while also acting really mysterious — but on the other hand, you also get interesting benefits like becoming immortalized on film. Try getting that next time you interview to become a Wal-Mart greeter.

So yeah, being a muse is cool, which may explain why Coming Soon is reporting that Emma Stone is currently in talks to work alongside one of cinema's most legendary muse-icians, Woody Allen.

Allen, of course, has a long history of being inspired by muses. Diane Keaton is probably his most famous object of attention, having co-starred in Allen's two most acclaimed films, "Manhattan" and "Annie Hall," among others. But he's also made multiple films starring the likes of Mia Farrow, Dianne Weist, Judy Davis and most recently Scarlett Johansson, who headlined "Scoop," "Match Point" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."

No details about Allen's upcoming project are yet known, so it's a bit hard to speculate just what Stone would be doing if she does decide to sign up for the Allen experience. Though Allen is approaching 80, he's more experimental than ever, using not just beautiful women but also exotic European locations as inspiration, so it's possible Stone may find herself inspiring art in Vienna, Zurich or Paris. Or maybe she'll just stand around being hot, which we would also pay to see.

Then again, nothing is set in stone yet, no pun intended. After all, Lindsay Lohan, of all people, had dinner with Allen last year, an unexpected meeting that apparently inspired Allen to not make whatever movie he had been planning. That's the problem with muses, after all: You just never know what they're going to give you.

Here's hoping we get to see what Stone can inspire Allen to do.

Fox

It's only fitting that the hit 2004 comedy "Dodgeball" was subtitled "A True Underdog Story" considering it cost just $20 million to make and earned over $167 million worldwide. So given that fact, you would assume a sequel would be a no brainer. Yet for nearly a decade now, the only thing stars Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn have been dodging is questions about when they were going to reunite.

Until now, that is, as according to The Hollywood Reporter, Stiller and Vaughn are teaming up once again for "Dodgeball 2." Hey, better late than never.

So what exactly will their competing gym owners be up to this time around? Details are still sketchy, but apparently screenwriter Clay Tarver ("Joy Ride") is working on a story that sees Peter La Fleur and White Goodman bury the hatchet and team up to face down an even greater menace that threatens both of them. We're guessing... aliens?!

Okay, probably not. But we wouldn't really put anything past these guys, given the fact that one of the main characters in the first film was a pirate. So far, of course, it's still too early to say whether supporting characters like Alan Tudyk's Steve the Pirate or Justin Long's... Justin... will be back, but one thing is clear: You may be able to dodge a wrench, but you can't dodge destiny.

Game on!

Tai chi is usually thought of as, you know, a nice way for your grandma to fight osteoporosis. But in the new international trailer for "Man of Tai Chi," Keanu Reeves is using it to fight something a little more dangerous: Killer kung-fu assassins.

Now just think how dangerous he'll be when he masters yoga.

Seriously, though, it's no stretch to think of tai chi in more militant terms. After all, while the form is mainly used as an exercise technique these days, it's based on an ancient Chinese martial art. So violence is inherent in its beautiful motions.

And that's key to the plot of "Man of Tai Chi," which actually features Reeves as a villain who gets his jollies making people fight each other to the death. His latest twisted plan? To take someone dedicated to the gentle art of tai chi (star Tiger Hu Chen) and warp him into a deadly killer.

Reeves doesn't just play the heavy, though; he's also making his directorial debut in this mostly Chinese-language film. Exactly when "Man of Tai Chi" is going to be released in U.S. theaters is still up in the air, but for now, here's the trailer, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

Just don't forget to stretch before you watch it.

Universal

Tom Cruise proved once again that you just can't keep him down, as the ageless action star powered "Oblivion" to an easy win at the box office this weekend to the tune of $38.2 million according to Film.com.

Of course, some of the credit for "Oblivion's" strong performance goes to the fact that there weren't any other new releases this weekend. So having no competition certainly helped. And it also helped returning films like "42," which finished in second place with $18 million, and "The Croods," which hung onto the third spot with $9.5 million.

Still, a win is a win. And this is a win Cruise will be taking straight to the bank.

Universal

Nostalgia is a funny thing. There's a very fine line between honoring characters, toys, cartoons and movies from the past and exploiting them. So every time a high-profile remake or relaunch comes along, whether it's "Transformers," "Star Wars" or "The A-Team," fans around the country hold their breath. Is it going to be good or is it going to crap all over your childhood again?

Well, fans of the cult classic 1985 John Hughes film "Weird Science" are about to find out, as according to Deadline, producer Joel Silver and writer Michael Bacall are about to remake it.

Of course, the knee-jerk reaction from most fans is instant outrage, but this time there may at least be some reason to think a new "Weird Science" could be pretty good.

Firstly, the film does have a decent pedigree already, as Silver produced the original "Weird Science." And then there's the resume of Bacall, who not only is in touch with today's youth culture (see: "Project X") but also has experience adapting beloved 80's cult properties as proven by his acclaimed screenplay for last spring's feature film reboot of "21 Jump Street."

Plus, "Weird Science" just seems like a film begging to be modernized thanks to its story of two geeks who use technology to create the perfect woman. After all, technology has come a long way since 1985 — and geek culture has come even further.

So this one could be decent, even if Silver and Universal are sounding some warning bells by trying to position this as a harder edged iteration by citing "The Hangover" as one of their inspirations. That's just, you know, totally random. But as long as they keep the spirit of the original Hughes classic, we're at least willing to give it a try.

If only for nostalgia's sake.

In the world of ironically named films, the upcoming heist movie "Focus" just moved into first place, as according to The Hollywood Reporter, Kristen Stewart has dropped out of the film and may be replaced by.... Will Smith?

Talk about your bold casting moves!

Okay, okay, so it's not an actual one-for-one swap of K-Stew for The Fresh Prince. Rather, it's just the latest cast shuffling by "Crazy, Stupid, Love." directors Glenn Ficara and John Requa, who originally wrote "Focus" movie for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. But since they were kind of busy being awesome in other movies, "Focus" instead became a vehicle for an even more unlikely romantic team, namely Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart.

Now, though, both Affleck and Stewart have officially dropped out of the project as well, leaving Ficara and Requa seemingly back at square one in their search for stars. However, while nothing is yet official, it seems that Smith is now in talks to star as a crook who gets involved with a young apprentice, only to have the romantic entanglement complicate matters during a big heist.

Just which ingenue will star opposite Smith is also still up in the air, but given how unfocused "Focus" has been so far, we're not counting our chickens just yet anyway. Because the way this is going so far, by the time they get it all sorted out, Jaden Smith will probably be old enough to play the main character anyway.
